An entirely new redesigned CPU that is 50% faster than Conroe.

I'm sure AMD was waiting for Intel to catch up and I'm sure that with the release of Conroe or even before we will hear about a new AMD CPU that is faster than anything imagined.

AMD is just waiting for Intel to release it's new generation so AMD can come out with theirs and show how much it better.

I cant trust a topic like this with the complete slaughter of the word tomorrow.....

The only news AMD could state that could have relevance is a quicker move to 65nm parts for 3ghz chips...a dual integrated memory controller...jump straight to DDR3...moree and faster cache...

They are going to announce they were complete and total fvcking morons for sitting back for so long as they did when they clearly had INtel on its heals...INstead they let them catch up...wake the sleeping giant you may say...with Intels coffers of R&D you dont start jogging 100meters from the finish line...

AMD is run by truly the second best of everything, IMO....When I heard the next upgrade was going to be AM2 socket with a DDR2 upgrade I knew the end of the lead was drawing near....

I hope they have something we dont know about otherwise its going to be tough to beat an intel that has finally gotten away from there increasing ghz at all cost moto. Now I get why they changed their marketing to leap ahead.

Maybe it's just me, but I sense a very large amount of sarcasm in that message.

This is why I sometimes suspect the two companies have some illicit "low competition" agreement.

oh yeah does that agreement include lawsuits and slander too?

You'd be surprised. They already have intellectual property agreements that do away with the entire system. The problem is with the structure they use in releasing new technology, it seems to maximize profits for one side while allowing near optimal profits for the competitor. Maybe if conroe drops, amd has no answer, and intel takes about 95 percent market share I'll be wrong, but if that happens we're screwed.

that would be very bad for Intel..they want and need AMD ..otherwise they are a monoply waiting to be broke up....or worse regulated?

I think i know what this guy is trying to get the message to all of you....I think he's trying to say that just because Intel "announced" that the Conroe is XX% faster doesn't exactly be right. In other words, yea, I think this is just a parody for AMD.

AMD desperately needs a brand-new architecture. AM2 and other little K8 optimizations is not going to cut it against Conroe, and Conroe is only going to get tweaked faster and faster by Intel as time passes. Furthermore K8 is based on the K7, and the entire architecture is already 7 years and AMD by now will have already utilized almost all of its potential.

I heard someone mention perhaps they will push quad core sooner, but I dont believe that will happen economically until the shift to 65nm parts....

Quad core also would do little for gaming performance as we are closing in on 1 year and I still cant think of many games or apps (that were not SMP aware before) being optimised for SMP....It would kick butt in CAD and multimedia apps, but would do little or nothing in gaming...

what good does AM2 brings for AMD anyway, except for DDR2, which it doesn't need anyway. The need a new architecture, cos intel has revailed their new architecture. Hammer is 3 years old i think

Well for something 7 years old, it sure did it's job well right?
