Ok, I'm at the part where you go down that pit and need to get the 2 gems on both sides of the ruins. I was able to get both gems but I'm lost as where to go now. I went through the tunnel that was blocked by a gate several times but couldn't find a way out from there. I did notice inside that there was a ring that you can latch onto. You can swing on it but it doesn't take you anywhere. I tried pulling on it but Lara just shakes her head. I've traced my steps numerous times but can't find a way out.

I searched for walkthroughs but Eidos says no walkthroughs til after the 21st.

Edit: Nevermind, I found it. Suppose to grapple down that ring and go through a door at the bottom.

/facepalm

No one has played this yet?

It barely came out yesterday, mate. I doubt people were lining up for this. :)

What is your opinion of the game so far, magazine reviews highly rate the game. Some user reviews state that there are some problems with the camera when it is close and also there are some problems with the controls too? If these are problems that you have noticed yourself, how do they affect the playability.

Am looking at buying this game today, but just needed some feedback from an actual user.

Thanks in advance for your time.

No idea about your problem, but can you comment on the shadows? Are they the same way as in the demo (ie. messed up)? The dynamic shadows are almost as bad as they were in Mass Effect. They kinda "wave" and are choppy and look plainly bad most of the time. The shadowing is fine when Lara moves from a light place to a dark one, it's just the small ones that are messed up (eg. cast from her on her, or by her on smaller things, or by the smaller things on her). Seriously, what's the problem with making them look fine? It's really bothering me in the newer games (a general statement. They put so much effort into graphics yet a vital part of it, shadows, is just fcked up. Let it cost me 5 FPS, I don't care! The game runs perfectly at 1080p with everything maxed and AAx4 anyway!

I have noticed the same thing on Dead Space to name another one and that's a Source game! Seriously, that's just being lazy (by EA) since all the Source Valve games got it right!

Ohh and sorry for my little rant :)

The camera issues are no worse than any of the previous Tomb Raider games, just the occasional odd angles you'd expect from the third person view. The controls felt pretty comfortable actually, surprisingly so considering I just used the default mappings right out of the gate. I honestly can't remember if I used the kb/mouse combo or a game controller on previous Tomb Raider (PC) games so I just tried the keyboard and it seemed fine, I may try the dual analog controller later. I haven't played too far into the game yet but so far it's been fun and feels very Tomb Raider 1-ish. It didn't piss me off within the first five minutes like Angel of Darkness did.

Hi

Thanks everyone for your feedback, I downloaded the PC version demo and was amazed at the quality of the the graphics especially on a 24" widescreen LCD. I did experience some camera issues when closeup but the controls seems fine to me. With this in mind I rented the X Box 360 version which I play on a standard 28" 100hz CRT Flat screen television. The graphics were still good but very dark, turning up the in game brightness made in look washed out and also the text on the menu and in the game is virtually impossible to read, and have still to work out what some of the text says.

Finding the objects you need to collect proved much more awkward than previous Tomraiders as they tend to blend in with the background very well, at times the breakable pots and urns would be virtually impossible to distinguish were it not for the 'y' symbol appearing above them. Playing on a standard TV and also with the much improved and more releastic graphics made what I have played so far very frustrating at times. This wasn't a problem before but I guess that's progress for you.

Game is tailored more towards HD TV. Standard TV owners may have problems playing the game.

On the Xbox 360 Version (something to try)

When you pull the gold ring out of the statues mouth it lays there on the floor so I decided to try and pick it up but ended up kicking it and finished by getting the ring to stand on its side with Lara supporting it by her right foot (think - standing still with football under your foot pose.) not been able to do it twice, just luck I suppose.

Hi Digital Duck

Wow, that's some screen you've got there. Not having anything of that spec myself, even with double vision I could only get 48". My monitor runs at 1920 x 1200 and tombraider looked great. If your graphics card supports that resolution or higher then good luck. I use an ATI 4850 512mb + 3GB ram + Q9450 and runs great with tombraider. I don't usually play the big games on the PC, I use it to download the demos, test them and decide then whether they are worth buying for the Xbox 360. Not being a great expert on graphic card comparisons, I couldn't say what you card would be capable.

I dropped out of the great PC upgrade race several years ago due to the expense and bought the Xbox instead. If some people still want to pay several hundred pound just to play 1 or 2 of the latest games at their best then that is up to them. New cards come out every 6 months approx, in my oppinion that is no where near enough time for someone to discover the true potential of what the graphics are capable of.

I notice you have a soundblaster live in your system, does it give you any inference or strange clicking noises? mine seems to have learnt morse code and ocassionally making odd noises!

Jaffy,

Hmm..just to clear one thing up, its not actually my monitor, im jsut using a DVI to HDMI cable to occasionally use it as one. My 24" dell does a good job, but I couldnt resist.. As far as the SoundBlater goes..I guess i would have to say no...the only thing I dont like about it is that it doesnt have an optical out on it..so i cant use it for muy plasma either..
