This is a great interview. If you have the time (~7 min each). He is by far one of my favorite guitarists. His style is just so.....well....unique.

He also lets you in on how he does some of his sounds.

Here they are:

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

I'm a huge (fat) fan of RATM. I think Tom Morello is definately a genious.

Bulls on Parade solo FTW.

Regrettably I have never seen him live. Would be pretty cool if him and Serj Tankian got together and made some shit.

Lollapalooza this year. Rage and Radiohead. Enough said. I love Morello, he makes the coolest sounds come out of his guitar, and it's not just loud annoying screeching noise... he actually makes it flow with the song.

Just finished them. My friend bought the whammy because of Morello and we still couldn't figure out how the hell he got some of his sounds. We know it was made possible with that specific pedal because another friend can play most Rage songs/solos. I'm still wondering what that "DOD Equalizer to go to 11" thing is? With a sweat guard? What the hell is that.

He explained it. First '11' is going to screw up the levels...so the pedal brings it back. The sweat guard is to keep his sweat from dripping on the pedal. As he said, it will short it out.

Unlike a lot of electronics, your pedals are usually under you. You will sweat on them.

Yeah he is good but I grow tired of his sound real fast. "HEY LOOK AT ME MAKE ALL KINDS OF WEIRD DISTORTED SOUNDS AND EFFECTS!!!1!"

Once I get my Ibanez back from getting repaired...I may put a custom toggle in it.....not just because of Tom, but you can get some cool stuff happening with a quick on/off

I love Tom's playing, and I am absolutely impressed at how much respect and credit he gives to hip-hop producers, nice to see a real musician acknowledge hip-hop producers as actual musicians. As opposed to "that's not music WTF!" BS you hear spewed.

He's good, but I like how he was pawning off a lot of those sounds as his own invention.

For instance, that volume thing in the first video was used by both Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page in the 60's during the Yardbirds (that's the first instance I've heard it).

He's my son's favorite guitarist on Guitar Hero 3 :)

he is pretty good. What amazes me too is that he does not demo anything. It all come straight from his head.
