and that's exactly why tom cruise got canned, in my opinion.

i think it's because paramount doesn't want to be associated with scientology and, therefore, boycotted by a bunch of morons (aka so-called christians).

Here's news for you buddy. Theists and atheists alike aren't exactly fans of scientology.

who is? but athiests are more likely not to give a shyt about tom cruise's beliefs than baptists. you hardly see any pickets around scientology "churches" in the north, but in the south and midwest, you see them every other day.... people from church groups holding up signs telling people to boycott cruise and travolta movies and whatnot. pure nonsense.

as was mentioned before, if they entertain me on-screen, i don't care what they buy into off-screen.

So a few fringe groups decide to boycott his movies. Many people on these forums, atheists included, dislike Cruise to the point of not seeing his movies.

But I guess since it's cool to bash Christians, you go ahead and do that. Whatever gets you through the day.

As far as star power is concerned, just look at the worldwide gross for War Of The Worlds. Tom and Steven took that one straight to the bank.
No... no they can't. Did you MI3? That movie fvcking ruled. How did it do in the theatres? Fvcking awful. There's no way that movie deserved to do that poorly. It did poorly because of him, period.

i bet this all has to do with his belief in scientology rather than something normal. paramount's ceo probably doesn't want to be associated with a "religion" like scientology and since everyone equates cruise with scientology, he got canned. i REALLY don't buy the whole behavior thing.
He hasn't? That little b!tch got pissed off at a Scientology episode on South Park and threw a fit and said he wouldn't promote MI3 if CC didn't pull the episode. Like I said, fvck Tom Cruise.

Exactly. Has he ever been in a true flop? Has he ever even been in a big budget movie that hasn't grossed 9 figures? Everything he touches turns to gold.
I have news for you... as much as MI3 cost, it WAS a bomb. The studio will be VERY lucky to make their money back from that, and I'd bet they don't.

Ahh yes, if I don't like scientology, I have to be a "moron" and a "so-called christian". Ignorance and stupidity are abound in this world.

Why can't I stand scientologists?

1. Because their psuedo-science rips on real science, claiming it's false
2. Because any "religion" based on a story of evil aliens and ghost possesions is stupid
3. Because people like Tom Cruise do not know the difference between psychology and psychiatry, yet claim to
4. Because people like T.C. use psychology to brainwash people into giving tens of thousands of dollars to raise through the levels of a so-called self-help religion yet rip on psychiatry or psychology, claiming it does no good (or did no good, since every field of science went through growing pains, especially psychology or psychiatry)
5. Because they brainwash those same people to hate others because they aren't "enlightened" and aren't free of evil spirits

Now, ask me why I hate most organized religions? Same fekkin reasons. Not to mention the "them or us" attitude, the arrogance, and the blind hatered and stupidity. Go take your self-righteous pigeonholing butt back where it came from sparky, because you have no idea.

I can't stand T.C. or Scientology not because it is opposed to any religious beliefs I have, but because it opposes any logical or practical beliefs I have.

Were you just describing Christianity or Scientology? I can't tell. They are so similar. ;)

Indeed, which is why I said...

"Now, ask me why I hate most organized religions? Same fekkin reasons."

I am Christian, in that I believe in God, but everything else is BS.

What puts me off about T.C. is his supposed knowledge about psychology and psychiatry and his FUDD that he loves to spread. His "religion" is based off of psychology and the creation of group-think, not to mention a massive pyramid scheme. It's a sham and I refuse to support the brainwashing of people.

Au contraire, it was a $150 million movie that grossed around $400 million worldwide, depending on the source. If they struggle to make money given those numbers, they have some major problems in overhead and marketing, and should go bankrupt.

In the US the gross was below expectations, and the sensationalism in today's journalism has done well to drive that point home (displaying Tom Cruise as the cause sells People and US Weekly to the ignorant masses, that's how it is). However, box office numbers were down across the board this past summer, and MI3 did remain on top for multiple weeks.

But by all means, twist the figures to attack Tom Cruise all you want.

The Journal story said Paramount believes that Cruise's behavior hurt box office receipts of the most recent "Mission: Impossible" movie, which was released in May.

I think the fact that the second one sucked such serious ass may have had something to do with it.

^ lol.

I'm thinking there will be a "Top Gun 2" now.

You can't make every movie work. Though Cruise can't seem to get that into his head.

Tom Hanks thought he could succeed in The Terminal. Of course, he had to go for the Da Vinci Code for the rebound. Nice Hollywood trend eh?

If it's not scientology it's some "epic" film of ancient warfare.

Well, I was going by what was on Rottentomatoes.com, and didn't see what it brought in worldwide. As for how it did in the States, don't use the BS excuse that it was because the box office was down overall. That movie sank faster than any movie with a similar opening I've seen. The numbers dropped off VERY fast. I actually looked at the numbers closely and have compared them to other movies because I was so amazed that it didn't do better after seeing it.

Another studio will snap him up and make $Billions. I think he's an idiot IRL too, but he's a great actor and will continue to make successful movies.
