Cruise, Spielberg Commit Hollywood Heresy

Streisand may have to dash off another memo to fellow Hollywood celebrities Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise. Both committed heresy today by announcing that they back President Bush on Iraq.

At a press conference in Rome, Spielberg said, "If Bush, as I believe, has reliable information on the fact that Saddam Hussein is making weapons of mass destruction, I cannot not support the policies of his government."

He added that those policies were "solid and rooted in reality."

Cruise, who plays the lead in Spielberg's sci-fi movie "Minority Report," which opens in Rome today, was more reserved but came down on the side of the U.S. president.

"Personally I don't have all the information that President Bush has, but I believe Saddam has committed many crimes against humanity and against his own people," Cruise said.

The bad part here is not that they said this at a press conference, but that some dumbass journalist thought the public cared enough to report it. :)

so that director and that actor... and what is the name of that other actor... oh yeah... GW... thinks you should, the rest of the world disagrees... and actually, so does a majority of the american citizens... but... that will not change anything, GW will go into the historybooks as the one who forced a war NOBODY wanted and NOBODY needed... and what he does NOT get is that if he actually manages to pull this stunt off, he will NEVER be re-elected...

So, have they thought about what's going to happen after he's out of there? After we're out of there? Who's going to keep the country running?

Now I fully believe that Saddam needs to go, but I just don't know if the warmongers here have really thought everything through.

I think war should be the last option, not the first. We, the United States, need to do a better job listening and taking advice from our allies, or they may just decide we don't deserve that alliance anymore. That would be a big step backward, and a bad thing for the ultimate world goal of peace on Earth.

I'm not sure that's as big a deal as many believe. Sure, the Rs would love another 4 but I suspect Bush's foreign policy has as much to do with the private sector as it does public. Bottom line: not all his actions are with re-election in mind.

I hope you aren't just getting my hopes up. I don't know how anyone could vote for the illiterate son of Satan in the first place.

I find it amazing that anyone would even think to ask them what they thought about Iraq. Why would they think anyone cares?

Yeah, I don't know who's more to blame, the celebs, or those questioning them :)

There are plenty of good reasons to consider taking action against Saddam. There are plenty of very good reasons to make sure that if we do, the reasons for such action are well documented and that we do so with the active support of the international community.

Hitler and others have proven that there are times when fighting is the right course, but anyone who is gung ho for the fight, should first consider whether it is important enough to volunteer his/her body as the first casualty. Once it is determined that the cause justifies sacrificing the lives of own citizens, it is even more important that our actions are well planned and thought through to the end game.

I do not believe the Bush administration has done a good job in any of these respects. I believe George Bush Jr. is an intellectual dwarf who does not have the mental capacity to handle it, and he is surrounded by a bunch of wannabe armchair generals who have never had lead thrown their way. The real generals of our military services are a lot more cautious about charging into this war than anyone in the White House inner circle other than Colin Powell, the only real soldier, there.

When were babs, alec baldwin, and kim basinger going to leave the country? I thought they were if GW got elected. If anyone knows how I can help them pack, I would love to get them on their way to Iraq, Iran or Afghanistan.
