Forgive me for a weak moment, but it was the timing is a little suspect, plus, just the FUD factor will prob inhibit anyone else who's minded to be a whistleblower.

Enron had over 800 shell companies to hide taxable income & capital losses through, people who come up with ideas like that don't exactly take the 10 commandments to heart...

I haven't met a single person who hasn't expressed at least a *little* bit of doubt about this whole matter. Liberal, Conservative, whatever... a sort of collective "Oh sh!t! That seems sort of fishy" went out when he was discovered yesterday. You don't have to be a conspiratist to get a sick, uneasy feeling about the whole thing based on what we know so far.

Most of us are not as naive and trusting as we used to be regarding such things. But, there is nothing we can do about it so most of us just look the other way most of the time. I mean, what are we going to do about it if it was a 'staged suicide?' As in, "We very strongly suggest you shoot yourself now or... " Who is going to tackle the people behind it? Not me. I mean seriously: Who is going to do something about it, if it were foul play? It's a moot point and we all know it.

You can argue about it until you are blue in the face: The fact remains, it was mighty 'convenient' and a good excuse for him not to testify.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I can't testify... I changed my mind about that and decided I would rather be dead"

"It was just a suicide" is how it will go down in history. And Jon Benet Ramsey's parents had nothing to do with her murder, either. And OJ was innocent.

Money can buy a lot of things, you know.... even silence.

:Q The same night that Mr. Baxter shot himself, Ken Lay cancelled a meeting with Jessie Jackson, claiming "a family emergency."

Hmmmmmmmmmm...

<< A native of Amityville, N.Y., >>

OH NO! Case solved, the "Amityville Horror" ghost did it!!! :Q

On a serious note though. As a child of the 60's I have always questioned EVERYTHING.
And I think that's a healthy thing to do.
When you start believing everything your told without question, your asking for trouble!
And anytime you have big business and the government so tightly inter twinned as they appear to be in this case.

You BETTER question things!!!

OMFG!

Are you too blinded by the socialist rhetoric your schools teach you to NOT see the oxymoron in this statement???

Capitalism IS freedom. There can be NO freedom if you cannot have economic freedom. There is NO freedom if you step on the necks of the successful in a vain attempt to help those who aren't. It has never worked, and it will never work.
>>

works pretty nicely over in europe, lots less crime & poverty over there :D
>>

That's why (insert European country here) is the most powerful nation on earth... oh wait.

The US is the most powerful nation on earth because of it's freedom. And unlike the nannystate fools in Europe, we haven't had to have someone bail us out of not one, but two world wars.

With freedom comes risk. But I'll tell you this, I'll take risk with freedom ANYDAY over codling with oppression.

I could say more, but i'll stop...

If it was self-inflicted it's too bad, the wrong guy died. He would be the only one to show remorse You can be sure Bush's best buddy, "Kenny Boy" Lay isn't feeling any.

<< Tom Baxter brought up discrepencies last year,,He was going to be one of the witnesses into the guts of Enron ..... I.M.H.O he was murdered, anyone close to the late Mr. Baxter are $hitting their pants rite now,, >>

Well, you have a motive, but a motive does not make a crime. Baxter became consumed by Enron's seemingly never-ending spigot of cash just as much as anyone else. He cashed in tens of millions of Enron stock.

On a side note, one of the police officers accused of raping Tawana Brawley killed himself a few weeks after the accusation was publicized. Some thought for sure this act was as good as a confession, though we would later learn he had been having marital and job difficulties for many months and Brawley's false accusation simply sent him over the edge.

It is one thing to think one knows, and another to know.

Had it not been for capitalism, Anand would never have invested his time, toil, and talent in his site, and you would not have a forum to display your ignorance in.

<< Wow, it's really starting to look like it was Bush who killed Vince Foster. >>

OMG, Busch kills Fosters!

Declares Miller, Heineken and St. Pauli Girl part of "axis of evil". . .

Though when questioned later by reporters, admits, "That St. Pauli Girl has a really nice axis".
:D

On a more serious note, I can only say, "Where there's smoke, there's fire." I would like to see this quietly but thoroughly and professionally investigated. Six years and $40 million ought to do it. Of course, I would also like world peace and a pony. I'm not holding my breath here, boys.

Anyway, you Go, nad, thanks for the article. Even if it is a bit shaky, there are questions I'd like more fully answered. What really got both of my nads going was the all too appropriate Lily Tomlin quote at the end:

"No matter how cynical I get, I just can?t keep up."
