Toll Road: Passed the light on red

I am in Irving, TX and I am in a rented car.

Anyways, there was no toll operator. It was one of those put your bill in here and it'll give you change stops. After 20 minutes of waiting in line and with other cars behind me I go get my change and I put it in the machine. I drive forward and the stupid light didn't turn green. With a long line behind me I had no choice but to pass it.

you may want to call anonymously to your dept. of transportation and ask "generally, what would happen if " then give them your scenario

On the NTTA roads, you normally get 3-4 "free" passes of running tolls before they send you a ticket. You might check your rental if it has an "auto-bill" tag for the NTTA roads. If they do send you a ticket, they'll send it to your rental company, which in turn will send it to you with some extra fees tacked on it. If it was one toll, I wouldn't worry about them billing you.

At the worst, if you do get a ticket, call them up, say you were in town for business, the light didn't go off when you threw in the change, and they'll cancel it off. (They're normally very lenient, especially for out of towners)

I've had the change basket screw me over repeatedly on the Dulles toll road, i.e. throw in 1.25 or whatever and it says you threw in 1.00. Driven through the red light, no problem. Not my fault the basket can't count.

Did this once in Houston in a rental. I was not driving.. but they never saw a ticket or anything from the rental company.
It did take a picture of our car, because I remember a flash from behind as we drove though.
