I also was just getting 3-4 hours of sleep each night for 11 years! wow
I am closer to my cure and I am doing 2 things.

I threw out my old bed and bought 2 foam mattresses from costco or you can just buy a temperpedic bed. Those foam pad readjust your spine properly and now I almost sleep like a baby. Also trying to eat better and as well as taking vitamins. In my case I am taking neuroflexyn and I love the added benefit of more vivid/lucid dreaming.

Some antidepressants are reducing sleeping cycles and some are increasing them, that's why you were put off citalopram.

The fun side of antidepressants:

I missed a couple days because the pharmacy coudlnt get my drugs.
Last nights dreams were fuckin crazy. Like a sci-fi crime thriller with lots of nudity and swearing.
If I had remembered the details I might have a halfway decent film on my hands.

Drugs are good stuff, I guess. At the very least I am addicted to them. My brain freaks when it doesnt have regular help.

I've had trouble sleeping since about 1995. It sucks, I'm exhausted all the time. Had sleep studies and all the blood tests required to find any issues and they've never found the reason for it. I figure I actually sleep about 4-5 hours on a good night. If I wake up at 1:00am or 2:00am I'll be up until morning. Once my brain wakes up, there's no way I can go back to sleep.

I haven't slept well in 11 years. Not depressed. Not on meds. Circadian rhythm/system is just all f'ed up.

FWIW I seem to function quite well on very little sleep. I'm sure its slowly killing me for some unknown reason, but if I get 4-5 hours a night I am good to go.
Same. I tend to wake up at 4:30, but if I sleep in any longer, I'm pretty well dead for the day. This sucks as I need to leave several hours later, so there's some dead time.

If I go to bed at 11:30, I'm usually good to go for the most part, earlier or later, no good.
