I'm not looking for the cheapest toilet, but something one step above cheapest and one step below mid level quality/price toilets. Any brand recommendations?

Thanks

I bought some Kohlers a couple years ago that I've been real happy with. They were about $120 I think.

I would recommend Toto drake 1.6 gpf gravity toilet. It's the best $200 ever spent from homeclick.com , I bought and installed 3 of them after the 1st one performed so well with single flush.

3rd.

We bought a Toto Drake a few years ago and what a difference it was. I was a total believer after that.

Awesome toilet for around $200 - $250.

I've got an American Standard in the bathroom here. It's old though, so it predates the "ultra-high efficiency" standards. But it has sufficient power to flush a cinder block.:)

Or just get a bidet.

Toto is nice.. American Standard is nice too. Kohler has been weak in my experience. The AS toilets I have upstairs can flush nicely but the Kohler one we have downstairs clogs too much. Of course that usually only happens to my mom and I don't get why she struggles with that toilet.

Toto is the sh!t. Former owner of one (Ultra Max) in the house I moved out of, however things have changed in the last ten years. Many more manufacturers have copied the things that made Toto so good. Toto is still king, but when I built the bathroom down my basement I tried to go as cheap as I could, besides I figured it was mostly going to get recycled beer. One of the cheapest and fairly rated toilets in that combined Canadian/US Toilet Review was the Glacier Bay Westminster. This is a Home Depot brand that they no longer carry. But I paid $110 and have been very pleased. So, there are some good toilets out there for less.

Click this link if you want to learn more about toilets than anyone could possibly want.

These are kinda the cliff notes. (9 pages )

Bet you didn't think there was a forum just for toilets

Hmm, how much does it cost to get one of those pressurized ones installed?

Just curious, but it'd be awesome not to have a tank and wait for it to refill and the ability to flush down a cat.

Most pressure assisted are pretty noisy.

i hate shallow toilets.
Or ones that are too powerful for their own good. One at work inadvertently works as a bidet - when it flushes, it does so with such force that water spritzes about 2 feet above the bowl, flying as far as 4 feet from the toilet. Fortunately, I found this out by visual means, and not from sitting on it.:Q It's similar to a firework: flush and get away.

We have Eljer (or something like that). Was pretty cheap at Menards a few years ago and it works great.

Squisher is right that they can be pretty noisy. You could look into the Briggs Vacuity as a quieter alternative. They were rated #1 for their price point by consumer reports a couple years ago.

While Toto was better a few years ago most of the major brands have caught up to them. Kohler and Amer Std make products every bit as good. The Kohler Wellworth is a good one for the money. A big difference in the cheap/expensive is the fully glazed trapway. That has a lot to do with clogs since the waste can get snagged on cheaper models.

I would advise you to make sure it's an elongated bowl and (if you can) get the comfort height. The extra couple of inches will make a big difference!

Ferguson offers the Vacuity I mentioned above and some less expensive Briggs models in their private label brand Proflo. Very good toilets for the price.
