So my toenail is on the verge of falling off (tripped in flip flops and its hanging by a thread). Should i rip it off or leave it on and bandage it up?

Anyone ever go through this crap?

The preferred option is to use superglue to reattach the hanging part to what's left. This depends on the nature of the rip/tear since you want to make sure you glue only the pieces of toenail together, not skin. Otherwise, use nail clippers to remove what you can and deal with bandages for a while.

Yes, you can always rip it off, but those have taken the longest to heal for me.

Take it off. Clean the area, and keep it clean. It will grow back within 6-8 months.

Pour some hydrogen peroxide on it to clean the nail and exposed area a bit. It also helps to weaken the skin that attaches to the nail after some soaking. After a while, just man up and give it a big quick pull. It'll slowly grow back after a few months. Make sure to keep the area clean.

I had to do it a couple of times from my misadventures in basketball and hiking.

tape it back on.

for real, it will form a scab and then you will have a deformed nail if you dont' tape it back on.

Or go to a doctor and ask him which option is better. If he has to pull it, he might at leat give you some local anaesthetic, and instructions on how to care for the gaping hole in your toe.

if i were you, i'd pussy up and bandage it. i'd keep bandaging it and clipping my toenail with the rest of my toenails until the traumatized nail was all grown out and you had a new nail in it's place.

depends on the condition. if the tissue is bleeding underneath then leave it alone. if its about to get snagged on something, cut it back a bit and super glue the rest together and protect with bandaid till it heals
