A man traveling home from work Thursday found 2-year-old girl wandering alone off state Road 50 in east Orange County, Fla., according to Local 6 News.

Investigators said Robert Figueroa spotted Kayla Klemens walking in the road at 3:30 a.m. near the Shady Oaks mobile home park at the intersection of Highway 50 and Sherman Road.

"As I'm coming, I see this little blondish thing," Figueroa said. "I thought it was a deer. "She was walking dazed and like she had no idea (where she was)."

Kayla was found wearing a diaper and T-shirt and carrying a bottle.

After her discovery, deputies were not able to locate Kayla's parents until a viewer recognized the girl while watching TV and called police.

Deputies were quickly able to track down her mother at the nearby Big Econ Mobile Home Park.

"We sent out two deputies and they knocked on the door and she came out and at that point, that's when she realized the kid is missing," Orange County sheriff's spokesman Carlos Torres said.

Deputies said the doors of the house were locked and that Kayla may have escaped through a broken screen door.

Neighbors said Stacy Klemens (Kayla's mom) is a good mother.

"I've fought for my kids for at least 10 years," Klemens said. "There is no way you can claim me to be a bad mom."

Kayla was reunited with her mother after spending several hours in Department of Children and Families custody. Kayla was not injured.

Yeah I know, I was thinking she was a bad mother too, until I realized it was way early in the morning. That must have been a shock.

They found her at 3:30am... and someone called in when they saw her on TV... that means that thing must have been aired quick if they got to the mom around 3-4am... 😕

They found the girl at 3:30am and didn't ID the girl until after she was on the news. I'd say that it must have been several hours that the girl was gone.

yea, something doesnt add up.

The thing is, Highway 50 is one of the busiest roads in the state... The intersection of 50 and 436 a few miles west of there is on State Farm's top 10 most dangerous intersections in the country ( I think it is #2) and it's #1 in the state.
I just can't ever imagine one of my kids getting out in the middle of the night.. you should take precautions against these things, you know?

It'd be nice if there was a time listed for when the cops showed up at her place. If it was before about 10:30, 11:00 she may have been sleeping in because the kid wasn't bugging her for once.

yeah agreed.. it could have been on the 6am morning news or something. And she would have been sleeping still, thinking her kid was still in bed.

It's a sad sad world, I once heard a story about a mom that got her kids back and 2 days later they were found dead in a cave on the beach that had caved in buring them, she fell alseep on the beach.
This is why people who have their kids taken away should never get them back no matter what.

She was in DCF custody for a few hours. I think that's what she's saying.
I think saying 'it happens' is a bit too blase about it. I'm not saying she should necessarily lose her child, but this shouldn't be taken as lightly. As I said, sr50 is a very busy road, even at 3am.

I know some kids are just kind the type to do stuff like this, and being in the middle of the night I wouldn't immediately assume it was parental negligence. One odd thing though is the mom's statement "I've fought for my kids for at least 10 years," what does that mean I wonder?

Definitely time for a chain lock up out of the reach of the 2-yo though 🙂
