In the same way that Pluto no longer gets to be a planet, I propose Europe no longer gets to be a continent. Look at a globe; it's clearly part of Asia. One big continent, Eurasia, should replace these two that were only separated because of racism.

But EurasiA would clearly violate the hard and fast rule that names of the continents all end with the same letter with which they start.

Duh!

I was taught in school that America is a single continent  and checking Wikipedia, there are several models, and most of them DO inclue America as a single continent, so no Fritzo doesnt "lose" there, where he DOES lose, is that this fact is based on English language.. Europe in Portuguese is Europa, so = Fail

Australia

Just checked wikipedia and apparently it is one of the options:

Is Antarctica just a big island then?

Edit: I like the wikipedia option of four continents. Afro-Eurasia ftw.

MotionMan

How is that pronouced? "o-shay-nea"? "o-she-ay-nea"?

You know Canada didn't used to be spelled with any vowels, right? Used to be just CND. It was the school children when asked to spell their country's name said:
C eh, N eh, D eh

And that's how it got turned into C A N A D A. ;)

They don't call Australia "Oceania". They usually refer to polynesia, micronesia, etc as that.

How would a freestanding volcanic island that's out in the Pacific be considered a part of some other land mass?

the criterion that each be a continuous landmass is often disregarded by the inclusion of the continental shelf and oceanic islands

I did not invent the damn things - I am just regurgitating what Mrs. McCambridge and Ms. Miles taught me!

I propose that we start calling all land masses "Post-Pangean territories"
