Ya'll leave him alone.. Go for it kid.. EVERYONE in here had a first job.. I would venture to say some of you might even be embarassed about it. He will learn about dealing with the public, management, and he fellow employees.. And in 20 years he'll be whining like the rest of us about how his job sucks... whatever it is.. Good luck kid and have a ball while you can... And try and get some from that pretty blonde.. you know the one I meam..LOL

Retail (waiting tables, SavOn, even working fast food) jobs were the most fun I've ever had and gotten paid for it.

It's all about your attitude towards the job. If you think you hate it, you will. Sure you'll have bad days and jerkoff customers. But you'll have great ones too.

The only reason I don't do it now is I make WAY more in an office. ;)

High paying? In Best Buy? Other than TV's, what expensive HT stuff do they have? How much could one possibly spend in a BB for an HT setup. A few grand, maybe?

Then again, I guess if one is buying your sound equipment at BB to begin with, one wouldn't know the difference.

BB has their "magnolia home theater" thing which has some decent stuff.

Just remember, if work were supposed to be fun, they'd charge admission at the door.

Today was my first full eight-hour day, I was still doing training, but it gave me a good idea as to the procedure around the store and the employees around me. And despite everything everyone has said, I liked it . First off, the employees kick ass, my managers rule, and my supervisor is really laid back, but still gets the job done. He's able to switch from fun to serious modes at the right time, when appropriate.

We had a staff meeting today before the store opened with all the employees, and despite what I heard, managers weren't really that intense regarding making sales. Yes, they pushed it, but nothing I wouldn't expect. Everyone was just flat-out friendly, and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Plus, it looks like the people in my department actually know what they're talking about (Home Theatre). And since we live in a high-class area (we're #31 in the country for sales), making quotas shouldn't be too hard. We're consistently above quotas, and right now we're 9% over :).

It's only my first day, but so far, so good!

No dude, YOU RULE!!!

I worked in Geek Squad for about a year, it was great, but then again we had very little supervision and nearly complete freedom compared to the rest of the store. However no matter where you go management seems to be flaky and indecisive at best. You may like them at first but I bet you'll have a whole new batch in six months. :p

Bottom line, it WILL get frustrating and stupidly annoying at times, but it's a good first job, anything in retail is, really. Just be glad you skipped right over the busboy first job, which was mine!

heh I worked in home theatre myself in best buy. and yes I liked it too at first. but after about 2-3 weeks when you are not a "trainee" and you are on your own and expected to be doing as well as everyone else, and have to stay till midnight or later emptying a truck, then you start to dislike the job.

saved about $1800 in discount on the 30th day (the day you start being allowed to use your discount), and quit on the 31st day.

btw, if you wanna know the price of stuff w/your discount, you can enter the employee ID# 1 and use that. that was the trick I did few years back, probably still works. cause if you enter your own employee id in the computer, it won't show any discount.

Oh yeah. I did the whole busboy thing, which was horrible. Cleaning the Women's bathroom was the worst part... they're animals, I tell you! :)

my gf told me about some nasty womens bathrooms, the funny thing is, if you think its the demographic group of the people who frequent the bathrooms, its not, many times she would come out scared sh!tless (no pun intended) when I used the mens bathroom and its clean and normal. i seriously think that many women do their business standing up in public bathrooms. no sitting, no squatting, stand up straight :(

nasty!

I've heard just the opposite more often than not. Strange.

But Daniel, how will you in good conscious, sell service plans and overpriced cables? You do realize this is a big part of your requirement there, right? They'll kick your ass out if you don't sell a certain quota. How would you like it if your mom, dad, sister, brother, aunt, uncle or grandparents got duped into buying that stuff?

I don't see the real stupidity in buying service plans, especially for expensive TV's. If you're buying a $5K TV, doesn't it just make sense to spend ~$500 to protect that?

And with regards to cables, I see it as if you're not smart enough, and ignorant enough not to research before you buy, then serves you right. The internet is a vast place, and anyone can research just about anything.
