Today was a sad day indeed

Mrvile

Well, today The Beast officially retired and is now enjoying her new vacation condo. Her status has been demoted to The Cherub.

All metaphors aside, I decided to switch back to air...ordered some cheap parts, and put it together in a couple hours today. To be honest, I had a lot of fun working with my computer again (I hadn't touched the inside for well over six months) and it brought back a lot of good times. But unscrewing all the worm clamps, clipping the zip ties that help the pump down, wiping the thermal grease off the Dangerdens...something inside me really died today...🙁

Expect to see all my watercooling stuff on FS/T shortly, like tomorrow.

*sigh*

PS - This actually happened about a week ago. I'm posting it today because I was banned temporarily.

why did you go back to air?

My guess is you'll be back to water again, it seems most people at XS who go back to air from water end up with water again 😉

I went back to air because I don't OC anymore, so I don't need the performance, and my water setup was actually louder than my current air setup (which still is pretty loud). Also, maintaining it was a hassle, and I wasn't really able to bring my computer anywhere.

So far, the air is satisfactory and I'm not regretting it a bit.

T'was a silly ban (nested quoting). 😉
Welcome back to the forums and the world of air.

Nested quoting? As in you quote someone who's quoted someone? That's a bannable offense - I don't get it?

Thanks for confirming something I suspected. I"m on air and I'm staying on air. 🙂

Mrvile - I have a questions for ya, since I have a V1100. Do you have the back fan as intake (as it came from the box) or exhaust? Thanks, and sorry to see the water go, but I guess it had to.

ohh that kind of nested quotes...

Yeah I'm guessing that these particular quotes were nazi quotes because the commies sure took offense.

I have a hard time believing someone with a 'nick' of Mr. Vile isn't culpable in something...

However, nested quotes (on this site) really bug me!

Having said that, I think it's a deficiency in the weird BBS software they use here, as much as anything. Decent bulletin programs won't allow you to nest quotes.

Whatever! Welcome back, I guess... 😀

No, I used it as exhaust. I don't have any of the fans in my system set to intake because all the holes in the V1000 provide all the incoming ventilation I need. It's much more important that you have adequate exhaust than intake. If you have enough exhaust, you'll get the proper airflow to cool everything.

(btw I don't have a fan in front of my hard drive...it's a seagate so it stays very cool, even without a fan)
