it is not that tough, well for me anyway. I am on my 3rd week being smoke free, after smoking 2 packs a day for 30 years. I just went to work one day and said "I think I will quit smoking today".

I still have the pack of cigs that was half empty when I quit in my tool belt. My wife still smokes too :

Good Luck

I think the hardest part will be getting over the nicotine addiction. After that, find things to do for the first couple weeks and chew on some toothpicks to replace the cigarette hanging from my mouth.

good move... if not for yourself, for your loved ones.

The dude across the street is outside his house smoking multiple times a day - everytime I look out there, he's standing there... it's quite sad when his lungs go and his 3 children are left with no father. :|

Good luck man. I lost a good friend to lung cancer 2 years ago. He was 2 years older than you when he passed. He had the same pack a day habit as you.

Good luck. Swear it off, and no matter what don't even tempt yourself. Had to do the same thing with coke, which was rough, but definitely for the better. And cigs are harder to quit imo, I'm still smoking them. 🙁

Use this, too:

for added motivation. 🙂

there's another one of these which estimates how many days you have added to your life by not smoking.

Good Luck Wischeez, I just passed my 17th smoke free anniversary and I have never regreted quitting

Best of luck, wischeez! 🙂

I've been tobacco free for a year now, and the only thing that bothers me is why the heck I waited so long?? I was 23-1/2 years with tobacco, and couldn't get myself to quit even after watching my grandfather die from emphysema complications, and my dad die from lung cancer!

It's tough sometimes, and you'll definitely have to work on changing some habits, especially the ones that prompted you to smoke in the past. But every time you survive an urge, it's that much easier the next time. Remember, you're not doing this for anyone else, you're doing it for YOU!!

And if ya need someone to rant at during a nic-fit, feel free to PM me! 🙂

Just remember the other guy who did it and just finished his first successful year. Use this thread as a sort of journal if you have to, as long as it helps you to stop.

And feel free to PM me if you just need someone to share your accomplishments with.

People don't understand how hard it is so when you tell them that it's been a week and they don't care, it's because they just don't know what it's like.

I smoked from 12 till I was 27, 15 of the most developmental years I ruined my body. I've quit now and feel like a million bucks, only regret was not quitting sooner, like when I was 13 🙂

Thanks all! My toughest test is to come. I have to drive home from Northern Illinois(Crystal Lake) to my home in Wisconsin Rapids. Around 4 boring hours.....need to stock up on the munchies. That's the one time I would smoke like one an hour.

We're leaving now,so I'll be back on in about 5 hours or so......

And thanks for the encouragement everyone!
