I am currently locked out of all my online fiancial accounts except one. As banks fight off crooks I am caught in the middle.

Seems like every time I log on they want me to change something. Well since I only log in once a month usually I forget what I did the last time I was there.

All week I have been talking with my primary bank about resetting my password, they keep saying that they will email a new password, yet never have.

Online checking-locked-can take money on sunday, just cant fix anything on sunday
Online savings-locked-fixed
401 account-locked-call monday
Bill pay-locked-connected to checking/call monday
Here we go.

You know, its not the passwords. They keep changing log ID, security key, or log on image. I got the online savings reset no problem.

Online checking people are incompetent pricks. I called at least 5 times this wk and now the internet guy is off today so I have to wait. He was suppose to call me last wk since my email seems to work for everyone except him.

Within one month I had four account number changes and two changes in how to log in. Took me two evenings to get everything straightened out.

I feel your pain.

Notepad with the website and password should work wonders in your case.

That's a horrible idea.

Why? As long as your computer is secure there isn't much risk.

A different randomly typed password for every website is much more secure than a single dictionary-based password that is used on every site.

FWIW, every site I log into has a different password.

I thought those online checking sites just canceled your account if you started calling tech support?

Anyway, if you care, KeePass is a good encrypted password manager that has a Notes field for each entry to let you store whatever other extraneous information they require. Having all this info in one place, even encrypted, is a little risky... but I guess it's better than not being able to log into anything.

Was a thread in ATOT really needed? This topic seems more suited for a Post-it note next to the computer.

I keep a text file with a list of passwords. I never use the same password at multiple sites and by now there's probably a hundred sites - more than I can memorize, especially when they are basically random character strings.

I have memorized the passwords for the 10-12 financial sites I use (banks, credit cards, 401k, etc.) and I don't store them in the text file.

Sometimes I like to remember my passwords or choose passwords that I can remember. It really seems to save time in the long run. I don't know, I guess I'm just one of those guys who likes to help himself and not cause myself extra work b/c of my own laziness or stupidity. That's just me though.

I memorize my passwords, even the 8 random character passwords.

Minimum requirements:
Uppercase
Lowercase
Number
Symbol
Non-dictionary
