It's 7:30 and there are already two here, one of which has a toy with volume set to full blast.

How about where you are?

Would it be wrong to send a message to all employee letting them know that they may communicate with me by slipping messages under my door?

I think the idea behind TYCTW Day is good, but the implementation is awful.

It should be for kids in the range of 10-16 or so. Not younger than that. We once had someone bring a two-year-old!

The company should have activities prepared which support the concept, ESPECIALLY if it's strictly office work. Otherwise the kids leave completely bewildered because they never saw any actual "work", just people sitting at desks.

And parents, if your kids cannot handle a full day of being quiet, and will suffer massive withdrawal if they don't have access to any media or entertainment for 8 hours, DON'T BRING THEM.

My company has tons of activities. Unfortunately, I haven't seen a single child over 4 so far.

All of my employees are telecommuters, so I could care less who they bring to work!

Bah. All you whiners and complainers. It's just one day. Suck it up! :p I, for one, think its refreshing to have some random little boy or girl walk up to you and ask you "Whatcha doing, mister?" That would be one more time than my manager was ever interested. Not to mention that it would be nice to have someone actually willing to understand what it is exactly that you do, as opposed to "Make it happen." :p Of course, if I were having a bad day, I would probably have a different opinion. :D

EDIT: Grammar

That's exactly why the implementation sucks. Our company originally set a minimum age of 10, but too many employees complained about the "arbitrary" cutoff so they eliminated the age restriction. And what does that get you? Toddlers.

I wish at the end of the day, they would have each parent who brought a child stand up in front of the assembled group and explain how TYCTW Day was a benefit for their child. Then I could laugh at the parents who brought toddlers, hearing them stumble around trying to make sense of their own stupidity.

To them it's one day they don't have to pay for daycare.

we had that last friday here....it was an excuse for no one to do work...and me to use the following joke roughly 837 times: "Yeah, I'd bring my kids in...but I'm worried the state would view that as me finally admitting they're mine, and forcing me to pay back child support I supposedly owe"

That would piss me off. Its not "free play with your young child at work day so you don't have to do real work," its "bring your mature, pre/teenaged child in to see what it is you do all day that causes you to never be home and when you are home act like a total bastard because you are stressed out day".

only the boss brought his kid to work..and he's about 14-15? So today is just like any other day except for a kid following his dad around and running errands for him.

I'm surprised none of the women in the office brought their kids...it would've been nice to have a bunch of 2 year olds running around. lol.

I have a nine yr old and he is the best thing that has ever happened to me. But then he also knows how to act. You see all those screaming kids in the store and restaurant, I can honestly say that my son has never done. He has never thrown a temper tantrum or screamed and cryed at home or in public. I have taken him to dozens of times since he was 4 and he works right along side me. Bmacd knows my son and knows how hard my son works when he is with me.
