Um, no.

In fact, the obesity epidemic did not start until the mid-late 80s and really got it's legs in the 90s.

Proof that food, and food sellers (particularly fast food, which had been around for 20+ years previous) are not to blame.

The one significant change in society that DOES correlate with the rise in obesity is the growth and popularity of cable/sat TV, home video games and finally, the internet. With the explosion in popularity of these three things, activity levels dropped and the variety of munchies in supermarkets exploded.

I agree with you. It did not start right at that moment, however when someone is too lazy to cook and would rather be a couch potato, what do they go get? (if they have enough energy to drive of course?) They get fast food. While McDonald's isn't at fault for people being as big as they are.

Their presence as well as other fast food chains are apart of the problem. If places like these were not introduced, or at least had a healthier menu, we would not be at the point we are today.

My original statement was wrong. I am sorry.

Actually a true meal saluting McDonalds beginning would be a couple of their regular burgers or cheeseburgers, a small bag of fries, and a shake. That covers most of the original menu.

To even claim they are part of the problem is absurd. They existed for more than 20-30 years before the rise in obesity. Activity levels dropped because of a dramtic shift in leasure activities in the 80s and 90s. The major change in foods has been munchies because there is only one thing to do while sitting on your ass all day... that's munch.

I still can't quite figure-out their burger patties. I mean they are supposed to be all-meat, but they sure don't taste like a real burger.

Now go have a quarter pounder - with cheese!

umm...no. This is like the "guns kill people" arguement. A gun is a tool, and food is food. It takes a person to physically point the gun and pull the trigger for anything to actually happen, and by the same token, all McD's (and similar places) do is provide food. The fact that some people eat *piles* of it isn't their fault.
