Today I shook hands with a world leader

His Excellency Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam (former President of India from 2002-2007) was at the University of Toronto to give a talk about "The Role of Science and Technology in the Development of Civil Society".

At the end of the talk as he was walking out, I was able to shake his hand. Unfortunately, my friend wasn't able to snap a picture in time. Bah!

In any event, the talk was simply excellent and inspiring. I actually feel like doing work now.

Bill Clinton was on campus yesterday, and Obama's here today. Both made many friends, as it's parking and security insanity now. Almost 30% of the campus parking is off limits to students, and news vans are all over the place. It's amazing how many people have nothing better to do than listen to some politician blather on about lies, half-truths, and meaningless rhetoric. Oh well.

Sounds like your speaker's talk would have been far more interesting and useful.

The Dalai Lama is visiting this weekend although I doubt I will be able to get within 500 feet of him. 😛

isnt that the left hand?

Brodie: After all he's done to you, you should still kinda stick it to him.
T.S. Quint: How do you propose I do that?
Brodie: You stinkpalm him.
T.S. Quint: Stinkpalm?
Brodie: You take your hand and stick it in your ass like this. You been walkin' all day and you're nervous, so no doubt you'll be sweaty as hell.
T.S. Quint: You should see yourself right now, a grown man with his hand down his pants.
Brodie: Yeah i probably look like my old man. So you shake hands with the guy, "Hello Mr. Svenning how have you been?"
T.S. Quint: Whats the point?
Brodie: You know how long it takes for that smell to come off? Scrub all you want, it'll stick around for at least two days. How does he explain it to his colleagues and family? They'll think he doesn't know how to wipe his ass properly.
T.S. Quint: Meanwhile you yourself are left with a hand that smells like shit.
Brodie: Small price to pay for the smiting of one's enemies.

APJ kalam eh? Smart man... I think he led the Indian nuclear weapons program. Needs to improve on his public speaking skills though.
