Today I saw probably the rarest production car I've ever seen in my life.

What, you say? That's just a friggin' Geo Metro!

No, it's a Solectria Force!

A strange Boston-made electric car from the 90's, built from engineless Metros! When I pulled up next to it, I thought that it might be one of those odd models from Mexico that we sometimes see around here in Texas. Then I got out and took a closer look at the badging, and I knew this wasn't from Mexico. I pulled up Wikipedia (which has photos of the motor compartment as well as what appears to be a household electric meter in the trunk) and found that only ~400 were made. So yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the smallest production run vehicle I've ever seen in person, certainly up close and in the wild (i.e., not in a museum or something).

Haha nice find indeed. So they pulled out a 3 or 4 cylinder motor to make it all electric during a time when gas prices were practically nothing. At least paint it Black and tint the windows.

lol.

ya, never heard of them before.
Interesting. What happened to them?

Interesting - never heard of that one!

I think the rarest car I have seen on the open road was a beautiful dark blue Ferrari 250 GT Lusso I saw, remarkably, driving on a rainy spring day in Minneapolis last year. They made 351 of those. It looked very much like this (and may even be the same car):

I believe a Ferrari F40 is the second-rarest car I have seen in motion, on the freeway near SFO a few years ago. I believe there were around 1,300 of those made.

My friend used to have one of these! It was better than a lot of electric cars I've driven, and came in some hideous purple color. He Maaco'd it white then flipped it a few months later :)

So what's the range on these bad boys? Can you use your feet like a flinstone car if you run out of juice?

Nice spot!

Rarest things I've seen (not sure which is rarest)

Lamborghini Reventon
Ford RS200 Evo Race Car (had paperwork with it certifying it as the last intact model of its kind)
Cizeta V16T

Seen the Porsche Carrera GT a couple of times around here. The exhaust note is sick.

I think I posted this one before.

I can't think of anything else truly rare that I've seen. Maybe some limited editions and stuff; but not a whole model that is very low-production.

Didn't see this myself, but my girlfriend sent this to me a while back (from the parking lot at her previous job):

Also saw this in a hotel parking garage in Richmond, Virginia. Couldn't tell if it was a replica or not, but it was still neat:

I saw an F40 on I-83 just north of Baltimore many years ago. My best guess was that it was part of a road test by Motorweek (a PBS show that films just outside of Baltimore in Owings Mills, MD).

EDIT: Or not, looks like MotorWeek traveled to Italy to test it.

I sat in #1 on this list.

Dr. Peter Williamson lived in my home town and some summers he brought out his 13-car Bugatti collection for a local Bugatti club of America meet/show.
