I second this question. I have always sworn by Lite-On for CDRW drives (never had a problem with the last 6 models I have owned). Are they not as good at manufacturing the DL DVD writers?

Actually, the top two drives right now are the NEC 3500 and Benq 1620. The Benq isn't as good on - media by any means, but does bitsetting on +r which the NEC doesn't. The Benq also supports quality scans that the NEC doesn't.

Basically, I think things are leaning towards the 1620 being the best drive out there for a dvd dl drive.
