I keep getting this message since I installed Yosemite. Problem is, I don't want to use Java. How can I find out what program is causing this message to appear so I can delete it?

Did you do a fresh install over Mavericks, or are you using any Adobe Creative Suite products?

Install it and forget about it. It's not the same Java as from Oracle with the repeated and annoying update messages and extra System Preferences icon.

Or else forget about Creative Suite, or pay for a new version of it.

EDIT:

Also, just so you're aware, this version of Java from Apple doesn't allow Java content to be run from web browsers, if you're concerned about that security risk:

http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT6133

This update uninstalls the Apple-provided Java applet plug-in from all web browsers. To use applets on a web page, click on the region labeled "Missing plug-in" to go download the latest version of the Java applet plug-in from Oracle.

So from what I understand, what you'll get is Java support in the OS for applications like Creative Suite, but if you want Java in your browser, you'll still have to install it separately. The current version from Oracle is Java 8.

BTW, why are you running Mavericks anyway? Why not Yosemite, too early?

Fortunately, this Java for OS X 2014-001 also works for Yosemite.

I have Yosemite installed. I get the Java message at random times, not when running Creative Suite. If it's caused by some background process, I want it removed.

It still may be caused by Creative Suite. It launches the process at startup. On mine I get the message at startup but after I uninstalled CS4, the message went away. I reinstalled CS4, and the message came back, regardless if CS was running or not. I believe CS5 has the same behaviour but I'm not sure because I don't have CS5.

What version are you running? If CS4 or CS5, try uninstalling it and see what happens.

Do you install Facebook's video chat?

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6602999?start=15&tstart=0

facebook videochat updater causes this notification to popup
Open the terminal and type:

launchctl remove com.facebook.videochat.[username].updater

just replace “ [username] “ with the user’s account name on the computer.

Just have in mind that everytime you boot your mac you need to retype it on the terminal to take effect otherwise popup will appear again.

I have CS6 and it's kind of buggy.

I just uninstalled the Facebook thing. I'll see what happens.
