How would you rate the capabilities compared to broadband? And what kind of slowdowns can be expected based on their "fair access policy? Is the service reliable? Im considering this combined w/DirecTV since our cable company (in a major metro city) still hasnt broadband access in our area. Theyre laying the fiber, but no word on access. Dont know if its worth the wait or just go for satellite.

I'm not a DirecPC user but I was a DirecTV subscriber so I investigated getting DirecPC pretty heavily. In the end I decided not to get it. In my case the outgoing bandwidth was (at the time) just as important as the incoming.

Decided to stay with my ISDN until GTE (or Verizon or whatever they call themselves now...) decides to upgrade my local C.O. and get DSL in this area

I sure read a LOT of negative comments from users. There is a newsgroup for DirecPC users (but I can't remember what it is...) and I don't think I saw a single positive comment.

The end of the story was that I was scared away by all of the negative stuff I saw.

I looked into it too but when i did I noticed they charged by the minute. That was one big turn off (not sure if they still do it). Another one is the the upload speed isn't that good and don't try to play online games with it, your ping will probably be around 400. Also I wondered if I would lose the internet connection a lot if there was bad weather outside interfering with the satellite. I decided to stick it out with a 33.6 until DSL came around. I would like to hear if someone has a good experience with it and how well online gaming works for them.

If you can wait a while and would be happy with the DishNetwork, check out the following link http://www.gilat2home.com.

I just signed up with the DishNetwork a few weeks ago. I am anxious to hear the finalized information and pricing on this. I have no access to any other form of broadband access.

My dish is on a pole at the edge of the yard. I have lot's of trees. I am actually going to go out and bury the coax next week in anticipation of this. I won't be able to bury it next February.
