To use or not to use new HD?

A friend just gave me a WD 40 gig 7200, I currently had a maxtor 40gig 7200 rpm and a 40 gig WD 7200 (same type as new one)

Is it safe to run 3 40 gig HD's at 7200 RPM with a 300 watt power supply? Also a tbird 1.4 and an ATI 8500 128MEG with cdrom and sound blaster? It seems like I cant acess the 3rd hard drive after installation, so is 3 hard drives not supported by windows?

Should I do a raid setup of the 2 WD hard drives? and how much of a performance diffrence would that be? Or should I just sell it or soemthing?

I had noticed the smell of burning silicon when I had turned the system on with all the components. It turns out my CD-RW fryed somehow, I opened it up and it sure smells like fried electronics. How the hell did this happen?
