i need some advice on a cpu purchase. right now i am running a p3(650) on a asus 3b-f. i paln to go to a piv when they release a ddr intel chipset. the question is should i upgrade to a p3(1000) (10x, 100fsb) to use for the next nine months. i would consider a 815 motherboard as my memory is pc133(cas3) but i do not want to take the time to reisntall everything. i play quake and run some serious statistical packages.

advice requested.

I don't know if going to a P4 would be a upgrade. You need to check out some of the P4 benchmarks to see how bad they perform. A upgrade would be to get a faster P3.

IMHO, unless you are experiencing major lag with your current set up, i'd keep it. and unless you're running some intel optomized programs, i'd switch to amd as it costs less and you gain quite a bit of performance. if you can hold out until DDR platforms come out, i would, but i think the AMD DDR will be out before Intel's :)

Do you actually know of a place selling a 100mhz x 10 P3? I have heard that such a chip is only Intel's charts but have never seen one for sale. Would do very nicely for me with my BX motherboard and PC100 RAM.
