To Upgrade or not to...

Ok here i go. I think i have a decent system. But i keep hearing the words "SLI", "CrossFire", "Dual Core", "PCI eXpress". ok as you can see from my sig my system is at best decent i think. Now i want to upgrade as far as AGP will allow me too, without spending too much money. Later, MUCH later i will be upgrading to an SLI or Crossfire Video Card, PCIe of course, and if i do that i will HAVE to get an SLI/Crossfire ready motherboard 939as i cant do that with my current setup, which means i might as well upgrade the processor to 939 one too....but in the far future when games are actually using the technology!!<--no flames or anything please thats just IMO

ok back to my question: Is upgrading from a 98oopro to a x800pro gonna make a huge difference?? or how about an x850xt Plantinum Edition? The one im most concerned with is the X800pro upgrade as if thats a good jump i KNOW the X850 jump will be that much better so please answer the x800-pro question first!!

You'll certainly see a nice upgrade even to the X800pro. The X850 will obviously be more so, but either way you'll see a boost.

The question is if it's worth it to you...

I also wouldn't get too worked up over SLI or Crossfire technologies yet. Sure, they give an increase in performance, but I fail to see the cost/performance benefit.

ok i'm gonna go with the X850Xt Platinum Edition, BUT should i upgrade my processor or will i be fine??just wondering if its worth to upgrade to the 3700+which will max out me system upgrade wise. i think the 3700 is as far as 754pins can go<--no flames please hehe anyways is it worth the upgrade or am i just fine?

I have a SLI mobo and I can tell you that unless I find insane deals on some video cards, I will most likely never use that feature. I bought the mobo I did more for the extra features in the deluxe version of the motherboard than the SLI features. Think about the performance increase you see in most games (dig up some benchmarks in places like here and other websites) and think about the performance increase versus the price. I personally think it's not worth it.
