Currently have a barton 2500+ @ 2200GHZ MSI K7N2 mobo 512MB kingston Value RAM and 6800GT

So I was thinking - Should I get socket 754 3400+, Socket 939 3500+, Nforce4 + PCI 6800GT (and sell the AGP) Or get a better HSF and Ram and overclock the barton more...

#1
AMD Nforce4 MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-046-MS) 11o sterling pounds
AMD 64 Winchester/Newcastle 3500+ 150 sterling pounds
OCZ 1GB (2 x 512MB) PC3700 Dual Channel Platinum Series EL-DDR CAS2 (MY-049-OC) 200 sterling pounds
MSI X800XT PCI -E 270 sterling pounds
Casing (undecided) about 100 pounds

Total= 85100PKS - 40Ks(current stuff)..... 45000PKR

#2
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (Socket 939) Motherboard (MB-027-MS) 80 sterling pounds
AMD 64 Winchester/Newcastle 3500+ 150 sterling pounds
OCZ 1GB (2 x 512MB) PC3700 Dual Channel Platinum Series EL-DDR CAS2 (MY-049-OC) 200 sterling pounds
casing 100 pounds
And stick with my GT

Total = 58000 -17500(current stuff) = 43500PKR

#3
OCZ 512MB PC3200 Platinum Series EL-DDR CAS2 (MY-016-OC) 84 pounds
casing 100 pounds
21000-5000=16000pkr

#4
Socket 754 system for cheaper

Which?

Im die to visit the UK soon where the prices are pretty high but still lower than what they are at home...Any good places to buy there other than overclockers.co.uk?

Also which Ram to get with what setup? Don't want to spend a fortune here though :p ....

That wont be much of a problem....They only charge duty on larger stocks...Baahh...frendz have bought stuff from the US w/out problem....

And damn the ValueRam...Doesnt OC much...And the 3200+...I heard it OCs well?

Also is there a place I can go and buy instead of online? And whats the best place to buy online? Also what about the VAT? How would that work out? Im not a british citizen...but will they charge VAT and then refund it at the airport or not charge VAT at all? 17.5% is ALOT!!

I'd go with either of the A64 setups, that CPU will be able to push the 6800GT much higher than the Barton will.

Also if you are going to go Nforce 4 you will get a small performance boost from using an Nvidia card. ie STAY WITH THE GT!! THe performance difference will be minimal.

Also do not get the 3500+ get the 3200+ which OC's just as far. Save your self some money :)

Anything you do you will be pleased with so dont worry about it too much.

I presume with the VAT that you will be able to get it refunded being a foreign citizen....but you should be charged whatever your country charges on entry to your country..

Im not a british citizen
that is not a problem.....just shout "ASYLUM" when you enter the country and they will let you stay at least for a while.......then they will realise that you are lying and throw taxpayers money at you and probabbly give you a council house.......not a bad deal!!

Oh by the way incase you think I'm being racist....this is more a kick at my own government than at you...sry

So I should keep the barton OC the hell out of it and upgrade when PCI - E and DDR2 is more stable? Or just waste until Q2 2005 when AMD is set to release their next gen boards?

Thermalright is my personal favorite, but they are not cheap.
Barton: SP-97
A64: XP-90 (also works for P4 478)

actually im not looking for the cheapest solution but the best bang for the buck....I mean I can get the 754 3400+ here in Karachi but the setup would cost 260 pounds...Where as in the UK 180 pounds...For some reason AMD here is VERY expesive. Even the intel 3.4 chips can be had for under that. I got my 6800GT for pretty cheap considering the prices in the UK.

After this I wouldnt want to be upgrading until atleast 2006...

Any real game benchmarks for AMD 64 vs AXP?

I don't have any hard numbers for you, but if you want to last until 2006, AXP isn't even an option. The 754 board/chips are a great value right now. And the 3400+ will blow a 3.4 P4 out of the water, especially with gaming.

The only problem with the 754 boards is that AMD will not be supporting them with their newer chips. If you wanted to upgrade, say just your processor in '06, you will have a limited selection of chips and definitely not the fastest chips. 939 seems to have a longer future, but if you plan to upgrade everything is '06, it doesn't really matter. Hope this helps a little. :)

And LianLi 1100B a good option?
Cuz cases remotely as close as those are as expensive...This is as much as a Coolermater stacker casing back here....
I think Ill go with the 939 or 754 either one...

How long will AMD support 939?

Lian Li cases have a good rep, but I've never used the model you listed. Just ordered a Lian Li 7077A case for a build I'm working on and I'm really looking forward to it.

As far as support . . .
AMD Roadmaps

These maps go out to Q3'05, but you can see that AMD is planning to release new faster chips on the 939 platform through Q3'05. 939 availability through '06 should not be a problem.
