To upgrade or not to upgrade my motherboard/processor?

I am at a dilemma currently I have a

Celeron 300a @ 450
Abit Bh6
128 Megs pc 100
Radeon 32m DDR
sblive x gamer
Netgear 10/100
DVD rom 10/40x
CDRW -POS Memorex

I was considering an upgrade to just a faster celeron, like a 600 or something and I would save the money. But after reading more on the radeon I found out that by using my bh6 with an agp revision 1 slot I might be losing out in performance?

So now I am stuck with the choice of just getting a faster cpu and living with my board, or getting a kt7 standard with a 700mhz duron processor and hope my fortron source powersupply works with it.

Any suggestions on what others would do in my situation would be greatly appreciated thanks

You shouldn't have a problem with your Power supply. The new Athlons require less power than the originals.

I assume you will be overclocking that Celeron to bring it up to sensible speed. On that basis, the Celeron is not a bad idea. It will be a relatively cheap upgrade, bringing 66% more speed, I estimate. You have not mention what AGPx the mobo supports.
If you were to get a Duron setup (really a good idea with DDRAM being introduced this quarter?) you would get overclocked 66% more speed than that celeron. But you are looking at 3x the price.
In your situation if the mobo were really the problem, I would look for a blowout Celeron board, these can invariably be found.

thanks for the opinions guys, just wondering if there were any other thoughts on this, I would like to save some money and just get a cpu/slocket but the kt7 looks cool with that fan and it is only a hundred bucks more for a new mobo/cpu whereas for a 600 celeron and slocket I am looking at like 105, 214 for the duron setup

he he :)

well I dont see why you would need more memory and a new hard drive since the durons are supposed to work under pc 100 and I have pc100 and my hd is relatively new, an ata 66 20.4 gig WD hd
