To upgrade or not... that is the question

I currently have a decent system. It's playing most of my games well enough, but lately I've wanted to play w/ some of the quality settings such as AF and/or AA. When I do this, I don't generally get the results that I expect. Before I go further, here's the current hardware. All are running stock speeds right now as I'm hesitant to OC (that, and I know little about it!).

(Note: All games run in my native LCD resolution of 1280x1024 @ 60hz)
Intel Core2Duo E6600 (Zalman 9500 HSF)
ASUS P5N-E SLI (650i nVidia Chipset)
2 gb G.Skill DDR2 RAM 4-4-4-12
eVGA nVidia GeForce 7950 GX2
Creative X-Fi
NEC MultiSync 19" GX2 LCD Monitor
Vista Home Premium (Yeah, I know... :p)

Armed with that knowledge, the games I'm playing right now include LOTR:eek:nline, Neverwinter Nights 2, Supreme Commander, C&C 3, Stalker, Company of Heroes, Star Wars: Jedi Academy (so I'm an SW nut, sue me :p), and I have yet to install Oblivion.

I've mainly been playing LOTR:eek:nline and I can run it with maxed settings, but I generally hit about 20fps, and it dips when I'm in large towns. NWN2 can run with the settings I want, minus AA, and keep at about 30, but I'd really like to run games closer to 60fps, that way if it dips it's not under 30.

So, I've recently come into $600 and am looking at BFG's OC2 8800GTX. I was trying to hold off for ATI/AMD's new offering, but the leaked benches don't have me wanting to wait any longer.

With my current rig, should I be able to hit higher Frame rates? Is there something I need to adjust to increase FPS while maintaining great image quality?

Also, if OC is suggested, I'd *really* appreciate step by step instructions or settings.

And finally, would the 8800GTX fit in my Antec Lanboy case? I've heard these things are huge! My PSU should handle it, but the physical size is daunting.

I appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance for taking the time to view my dilemma.

(Edited refresh!)

I'm waiting for the R600 release if only to ensure that the price comes down. Of course I probably need to worry about my cpu more since DX10 isn't a major issue yet

Yeah def wait for a couple weeks/month. I personally am waiting for Crysis/UT3 to come to upgrade because they are the only reasons I need a beefier card.

I refuse to upgrade to Vista until Crysis comes out. I am in the process of rebuilding my system

First off I'd like to know how you got your monitor to run at 60mhz. haha just kidding. But that would be nice.

Second, what PSU do you have just out of curiosity?

BTW, although benchmarks have been "leaked" I'd wait until they release the card anyways. Even if the card is indeed inferior, it should still change the market. Lets keep in mind that the 2900xtx may never see the light of day. Might be 2950xt and 2950xtx before we see anything but I don't know.

Maybe someone else does?
