Just thought i would update my old mates to the fact i now have £2000 of the £2995 i need to go to africa, with more on the way. If i can, i shall post to the forum from africa to say hi 🙂

That's great to hear Aberant ! I hope you'll get the required dough soon. I know you have been dying to raise enough funding to go over there.

You almost did it ! 😎

Really? Wow! I was going to Ghana last year on business, had all my shots and everything, but it didn't happen. I still may go at some point, but it's not definite. Depends on if our partner there can get his act together.

What takes you to that area?

PM or e-mail me sometime, lets talk! 😀

aberant: I was in Ghana over the summer. My sister was with the Peace Corps in Benin, and I visited her for a few weeks in June & July. We took a 5-day trip to Ghana, and we stopped in Accra and Kumasi. I like Kumasi a lot...we visited Bonwire, the small town outside the city where they make the Kente cloths. There were also a few really cool rain forest preserves outside the city that are really worth the hike.

Email me, and I can send you some of the pictures from my trip.

Wow! cheers guys - will def email ya's. Its looking even more promising now - things are moving at an unbelieveable pace at the moment - more later 🙂

I thought maybe you were going over to work on the African "Ring of Fire" project. I don't know its status, but the idea was to lay underwater cable around the whole damm continent to form a super-backbone, then each city that wants to participate would install a line that goes out to the ring.

<< from BBC Sci/Tech about Africa's Ring of Fire. Essentially its a fiber cable that will circle the continent and provide 40gbs net access all around. The cable will be laid by robotic subs and the article says it will be self healing. All this for a mere $1.2 Billion. >>
