I know that some think the Catholicism is the wrong religion so I decided to do a little research of my own.

There is no mention of Catholicism on masturbation.com, but it is mentioned in the FAQ on Jackinworld.com

The Catholic Church's Position

Although some religious denominations have changed their stance on masturbation as a sin, the Roman Catholic Church continues to classify the practice as mortal sin, along with any other sexual behavior that is not intercourse between a married male and female. One respondent described learning that the Church's reasoning for proscribing masturbation is based on the idea that ejaculating semen outside of a woman's vagina wastes human seed. The theory, however, does not account for the millions of sperm in an ejaculation into the vagina that die after one sperm fertilizes an ovum. Nor does it account for the millions of sperm that die within a male's body every day even when they are not ejaculated.

I've been told that the Catholics are wrong because you're not supposed to take scripture literally.

I read this as saying that if you interpret the Bible with a dictionary and a stick up your arse it's wrong, but if you do it with an eye for symbolism (and a big grain of salt) for the purposes of enlightenment, it's fine.

What do you think?

Just don't masturbate and you'll go to heaven. It's not that hard to have sex only for the purpose of procreation is it? You people :disgust: me.

What's irony?

Born and raised Catholic here -

It was taught to me that masturbation was wrong because self gratification is not how one should use their genitals.

For procreation use only. (other than normal bodily functions)

why should self gratification be wrong? it hasn't lessened world population if that is what the original intent was concerned with.

Eh, I've studied the topic at length. I personally don't think the action of masturbating is wrong, but if it causes excessive lust (for other people than your spouse or porn, etc.) then it becomes a sin.

I admit...I've sinned :)

I'm not saying I agree with the statement, just that what was taught to me.

It's been a pretty rough day, and getting home to see this makes it that much better, or funnier at least (well, this thread and Everlong by Foo Fighters).
