I am curious what motivated you to stop smoking, and what, if any, outcomes did you experianced after you stopped.

I do have friends that smoke every day, it is part of there routine. I sometimes wonder if there lives would be much differnt if they stopped. When I stopped smoking weed, it was a good thing for me. More motivated, clearer thinking.

I did it when I was a teen. It made me feel stupid and burned out. I joined the Army not long after I quit, and just never had the will or urge to use it again. I'd use it in a heartbeat if I had to go through Chemo though.

I smoked pot when I was younger, and I?m glad I stopped. It seemed as if a fog had lifted when I stopped. My memory returned, working habits improved and I felt better in general.

There is probably nothing wrong with taking a puff now and than, aside from being illegal that is. But I wouldn?t recommend long term usage.

<< hope the cops aren't reading this thread! >>

One of the reasons I quit. No more looking over the shoulder.
That plus the moral responsibility of using an illegal substance. I concluded that I would be partly responsibility for any Border Control agent, DEA or civilian killed by the drug runners. Remember the mass grave found in Mexico a couple of years ago? The drug cartels no doubt just considered those people as collateral damage.

I know quite a few people that smoke everyday, maybe 3 or 4 times a day. Some of them have teenage children, who grew up with the understanding that Pot is fine, and there is nothing wrong with it. Now these teens steal their parents pot and give it out to their friends or they save up their allowance and buy their own. I could never allow my children to think using any kind of drug was okay, and the best way to reach that goal is to not use any myself. That is the main reason I stopped. I feel better in general, I don't have that fog head anymore, I also sleep better at night.

the last time i smoked (sept 2000) someone failed to inform me of the other drug that it was laced with. i went to a bar soon afterwards and could barely function. i didn't find out until the next day what it was. some of my other friends convinced me it was probably about time to quit, so I agreed to do the same.

the slippery slope arguement is false. marijuana use alone does not lead to heavier drug use for the simple fact that marijuana is not chemically addictive, unlike say cigarettes, yet no one ever associates marlboros with the worry of a possible angel dust dive off a skyscraper.

There was a time long ago when doing pot was cool and plentiful. That time was the 60's. I used it,dealt it,and almost got killed over it by the time the 80's got here. It is a gateway drug. It can lead to alot of misery. It is not worth the temporary high and the bagage that comes with it.
It is now against the law to use it. I would support legalization and taxation if it could be regulated and controlled ,both in its use and quality. Lacing pot with other drugs, like angel dust, is taboo. Until that time comes, you go to jail for it. I just bailed my son out 3 days ago,he had his truck inpounded and now goes to court, has a record, and will probably do some jail time. I don't think he thinks it's worth it. At least not at the moment.

I am now high on sobriety. I have not touched anything stronger than coffee in 15 years. Life is to precious, than to view it through glazed over eyes.

werd pot sucks. But given a choice of alcohol or pot, pot would win. It does not damage the body, nor cause as many fatal accidents, or as many folks in rehab.

best way: Avoid liquor and pot and any other drug.

I smoked pot when I was younger. I used to like it for sleep, music, concerts, socialization . . . got older, started surfing (what a natural high!) and realized I had more energy without it (plus it was expensive and illegal (inconvenient to obtain and growing it was always a worry).

About 5 years ago, I was injured in a traffic accident by a Honolulu City bus at a red light (herniated disk in the neck, rest all left bulging - severe continuous headaches that would last over a week). 2 MDs and the surgeon as well as therapist and acupuncturist/herbalist agreed pot was best for long term pain relief. After 3 1/2 years of therapy, I made a complete recovery and just stopped smoking since I no longer needed it.

Then, about six weeks ago I got reinjured in a serious accident (whiplash again - hit from behind by a truck at a red light). Identical symptoms but my MD is against medicinal marijuana - I now take vicodin and ultram for pain relief, 3,200mg of ibuprofin (and antacid - daily), skelaxin to relax the muscles and lidocaine skin patches as well as antidepressants.

Believe me, I would give ALL this chemical cocktail crap up for marijuana (pot has far less side effects) but I recently moved to Cali and all my friends are in Hawaii and I don't like sneaking through back alleys.

what red said. and keep in mind, Michigan has some of the toughest laws in America since passing the 'lifer laws' in the 70's (busted with ~1.5 lbs of powder gets you a life sentence). but it wasn't just that. i felt like i was wasting so much time being wasted, and i waste enough as it is right now.

i rarely drink since that happened, maybe once or twice a month. to me, drugs and drinking seem no different at all. they're just ways to avoid or delay dealing with your troubles and insecurities, instead of just confronting them.

That's a very interesting point, and one I never thought of before. It definitely applies when discussing drugs that are imported across our borders. To a small extent, marijuanna is, but for the most part it is "home grown", in basements or outdoors.

Your point could be extended, though, to the consequences to others from the people who grow and traffic marijuanna. How many of the growers have children? What effects does it have on them? How about those who are killed in the violence that inevitably comes with trafficking in illegal substances?

I think that would make for another interesting thread: "How much responsibility for the 'collateral damage' caused by manufacturing and trafficking illegal substances lies with the user?"

What about the government? Big business abuses? Damage to the Environment?

By simply living "normally" in a society we all share the responsibility for collateral damage for EVERYTHING. We drive a car and pollute the atmosphere. We pay taxes and finance wars that kill and injure people.

If your conscience is so wronged, you mightconsider shutting your computer off and going off to live in harmony with the land as a hermit.

If you (must) smoke pot, ideally you should grow it.

Certainly not as much as lies with the government. I've never smoked a joint in my life but I'm all for legalization of marijuana -- you never hear about Joe Schmoe the "tobaco runner" getting killed, do you? *sigh* Not while Dubya is in office...
