I'm just wondering if the majority of people whom own a vacation house actually make money off of it through rentals or do you have it more for personal use? I'm just curious because I was looking at the house prices in Aruba and you can get them for cheap (under $100K), and people will pay over $1K/week to rent them out. thats over $4K/mo before paying the expenses of upkeep, and its hot year round there as well.

I was talking to the owner of this house. The house itself was $78,000 to build, and the land was $23,000.

After adding the extra privacy wall, the security system, a pool, an extra bathroom, an extra storage room, and an extra closet, and all the furniture, it was close to $200K.

but again, this was a brand new project and started from scratch

Is it likely that it'll be booked solid every week?

take a look at the rates/availabilty link on the homepage of that site. you will see its booked pretty much every day this year except maybe 1 month total.

No, but figure that 12-15 weeks a year would make payments easily

Wow, $1k a week is really really cheap for such a tourist hotspot. These sh!tty cabins we saw in Gatlinburg a few weeks back were going for about $175/night, so that's $1225/week. I think you could charge a lot more easily (if it's anything like the link you posted, you could get a ton more)

they say on the page. its right near the airport and is minutes from downtown. the airport itself is pretty close to a beach as well. its in a residential area, not a tourist spot.

still though, the island is tiny and you could drive to the beach easily from anywhere on the island. eagle beach is about 5 mins from downtown, so this can't be less than 10 minutes from eagle beach.
