Which one of the star wars was the most hyped up? Were there ever any secret leaks? Like finding out Luke was Darth Vaders son in Empire Strikes back?

Jedi had the most hype: but back then "hype" wasn't anything like it is today. Today, "hype" has a life of its own - back then it was mostly word of mouth that made a movie hot. As far as I can remember, I can't recall hearing anything about the secrets of the films until I saw them on the big screen...

That was back in 1980 when I saw Empire in first-run. On the first day. And the first screening! Damn I'm old.

Now here it is 2001 and I already know the story for 'Attack of the Clones.' Times have changed, baby...

My parents took me.
I didn't want to go.
I thought it was going to suck.
I was 9 and loved it.

Star Wars came out of nowhere and became a hit by word of mouth.

Empire Strikes Back was highly anticipated and more than exceeded its hype. It was probably the best of the Star Wars series.

Return of the Jedi was probably the most hyped and was kind of disappointing in some respects. One of my problems is the start of the "I have to have something cute for the kids" syndrome that George Lucas seemed to have caught. This syndrome gave us the Ewoks and Jar Jar Binks in the 4th Star Wars movie.

The first one wasn't hyped at all- in fact Ebert gave it a thumbs down and said it was a waste of money.
The second was highly hyped and anticipated- and gave us our moneys worth IMO
The Third was highly hyped, but wasn't quite as good- you could see the commercialism sneaking in.
Chapter one- Too much Hype, too much commercialism- you could almost see Luca's thinking of ways to make it a more "marketable" for McDonalds, Wal-Mart, etc

I saw Empire 17 times in the summer of 1980. Jedi was more hyped, but I only saw that in the theater once (because of those damn Ewoks)... Much of the hype was for stupid Ewok toys.

while it wasn't hyped much, there was a buzz about star wars for more than a year. everyone that liked that type of stuff had heard about it.

Seems to me like Return of the Jedi was the most hyped, the first was a relative unknown and new ground.
As I recall.....

I remember seeing a preview for the Star Wars card game, the new one.
I was thinking, I wonder if anyone will play this. Well it couldn't possibly become more popular then my Star Trek cards, could it? :)
