I live in Raleigh and yesterday it took me 3 hours to make a 20 minute drive. My roommate was in his car about 5-6 hours beofre he parked it and walked home. Let alone I was on less then a 1/4 tank of gas.

I can see someone like myself not lnowing how to drive in snow, even though I do, but I saw so many idiots that would hit the gas when they lost traction. One dodge truck almost hit me as ever time he had 5 feet free in front of him he slam on the gas and spin his tires. What part of put in drive and let it idle up. Is it really that hard to get. Hit gas spin tires.... ahhh... maybe it juts needs more throttle... tires spin more and truck goes sideways. Then you get the other people that drive so slow and just STOP in the middle of the road or on top of the hill so you end up sliding back down. One guy held traffic up for 5 minutes before he tried to move again. It goes both ways peopel, to slow is bad and to fast is bad. Learn how to drive or DON'T. Then traffic was backed up because peopel would block the intersection as they did not want to miss the light. Thanks, you just caused traffic to back up 3-6 miles so you can get across the road 1 minute faster.

Of course we are going to get 1-2 inches again tonight and then the "BIG" storm comes sat. night and sunday. That should be fun. At least I don;t work Sat or Sunday this week. :) Maybe I will get my video camera and digital camera out and snap some idiots... I mean "accidents".

Yeah, when it snows a lot I usually just stay home. And its not because of the snow.

Last month we got about 8" or so and I was driving to work. I got stuck behind a woman from California. I have never seen a more petrified look on a person's face before. She was holding the steering for dear life and was doing about 10-15mph on an ok (two tracks cleared) street. :D

Did you lay on your horn in an effort to reassure her? :D

Remember, if you are doing 10MPH in a car, and it's going to hit another car. BAIL OUT! :D

iamwiz: Californians and snow are a mixed batch. Depending on where you're from you are either going to be really bad, or perfect. We had some family from Michigan stay the night in a casino in South Lake Tahoe, because we drove up, and they refused to drive back down highway 50 because of the snow, darkness, and cliffs. We thought since they were from Michigan snow wouldn't be a problem.

You forgot to mention all the idiots with bald (or nearly bald) tires who think the roads are really slick because they slide all over the place. It is amazing that people will risk their lives in a car with bad tires so they can "get the most out of them". Personally, I think my life is more valuable than a few dollars. I have a set of snow tires I use for the winter months. :D

Yeah snow tires aren't really all that expensive. Unless you're driving a H2 or a 18 wheeler or something.

the joys of winter. altho, i'm sort of glad I don't have stick, cause I'd be one to spin the tires oh so much if I had 1mph traffic in slush... not enough practice with that one.

i got stuck in raleigh snow traffic yesterday tooo!!!!1 it took me 1 hour to drive what normally takes 5 mins!!! severe issues, the roads were really bad though, i saw more cars skidding than not skidding. it was the stupidest thing i'd ever seen, i could have crawled on my hands and knees faster than these people were going. braking the whole way home sucks!

These bastards can't drive in LESS THAN AN INCH OF SNOW!!:|:|:| Give me a break. Hell, I think they drove even better when it was mostly ice right after Christmas

I would like to thank Mike Easely as well, for not wasting all that salt and sand and sending the snow trucks out when the interstate is already gridlocked....

You will definitely get my vote next time around... :|

All in all I spent 4 1/2 hours making what would be normally a half hour or less of driving.

The roads were not even that bad, I was only sliding when I was stopped which was 98% of the time.
