To the moon, Alice!

I am sure this idea will get off the ground real fast. (no pun intended)

/sarcasm

I don't anticipate seeing these in my lifetime.

This is just the beginning!!

It would be much better if we could use something other then gasoline to fuel these things, or even our own cars.

It would need some type of hovering capability to be practical. Unless you expect to have a 2 mile stretch of traffic-free road everwhere you want to land.

And you think the drivers today on the road are bad.....

To add another point, who is going to train all these car/plane drivers/fliers? And at what cost? Flying is not nearly as simple as point-and-hope driving most "drivers" seem to engage in......there's a reason flying lessons are so expensive and long.

That's why you don't include manual control. Just auto-pilot.

Damn these new fangled horseless carriages. They will never be safe enough for the general population. You mark my words.

Think of it more like a plane that you can drive home and park in your garage. You will still need a proper runway, but with the added convinence of being able to retract the wings once you reach your destination airport and drive to your final destination.

I would love it if we just had electric cars already. Fuck flying cars.

How about an affordable helicopter? At least that can land vertically.

Exactly.

I'd drive/fly one! That'd be pretty badass.

As far as teaching people, etc.. that will just come with time. If it became normal, it would be normal. Nothing to sweat.

I consider this debunked until I see one on the road

FAQ's - Why would I get a Transition® instead of a car and a plane?

strangely reminds me of Manbeef.com from years back

There fall under the "Sport Pilot" category. They will still require FAA licensing. The owners will be required to earn their wings just as much as any other pilot. You seem afraid of change for some reason.
