To the dumbass walking your dog on the bike path without a leash.

Just because your dog is old and doesn't head for ze hills everytime it's off a leash doesn't mean you should walk along the bike path with your deaf dog wandering all over the path. When I come along at 20 mph and have to jam on my brakes to avoid hitting your dog you should thank me for slowing down and not killing him while sending myself to the hospital instead of apologizing to me...for what I don't know. Obviously, you realized that your dog shouldn't be running around loose.

Dumbass. :|

Hey... that's like my experience!...

I was riding down the bike path at Santa Monica... and this Japanese family is just strolling down the bike path (5-6 bikes) very slowly.... blocking any way for me to get around... So I decide "why the heck not" and I attempted to cross em at a curb... Well... smart ol me crashed into the child's stroller that barely moved while I crashed hard into the cement 5 ft away...

I get up, ask if the childs ok and apologize... They don't say anything to me... just talking to the baby... So I just stroll off thinking "why do you go to California if you don't speak any English..."

But, I didn't get sent to the hospital, so I feel lucky

It was a professional apology?

Wow, what an idiot :/

I think it may be against the law here for dogs to be unleashed, ANYWHERE. Good law.

It is here too, which is part of the reason I was so annoyed.

BTW-I like dogs, in fact I have a dog. But I don't let her run loose around the neighborhood like a menace.

Coincidentally, the woman who apologized sounded Asian but I didn't get a look at her because I was too busy trying not to run over her fvcking mutt.

Did you let them know you were coming up behind them? I usually say, in a loud voice, "behind you" or "on your left" to let them know I'm there.

not to start a flame war but my experience with bikers is that they seem to think they own recreation paths. im a runner, i have run by myself and with my dog and god help you if you dont get off the path before the "i wanna be Lance so i wear these really tight polyshorts that make me look like a turd" jerk goes by. otherwise you'll get yelled at and cursed for making him lose his yellow jersey. im not saying this guy was right though he should have had his dog on a leash

Them damn parents and their three year olds too. People need to keep them on a leash.

Haha, you have it easy. The Hudson Greenway in NYC is covered with dummies like that every day (not just dog owners -- people who let their toddlers run around in the middle of a bike path... <shakes head>).

Look, I'm fine with people walking on the path, it is certainly wide enough for bikers and people to occupy at the same time. Hell, you could drive a car down it assuming you could get one on it. But people need to be responsible with their pets and children. I will make my presence clear when I come up behind you but it is not my responsibility to make sure you children know what to do when someone on a bike comes up behind them or to make sure your dog isn't a) overly aggressive towards cyclists or b) wandering around loose in front of people who are riding (especially when it's against the leash laws).

BTW-People wear those shorts and jerseys because they are designed to wick moisture away from the rider's body (a cotton t-shirt just gets wet and makes you cold) and to provide adequate coverage while in the riding position. The shorts are also padded to help reduce pain/numbing around the groin. They are also more aerodynamic. Most t-shirts, unless they are really long, would ride up so your butt/lower back is sticking out. I'm reasonably sure you'd rather see guys riding in shorts and a jersey than see their asses sticking out. ;) Then again, maybe you wouldn't...

1 is it a designated bike only path? if it isnt pedestians i.e. people on foot have right away meaning you need to be prepared for anything.

2 all pets should be leashed

3 the safety of children is more important then your workout

4 the pants are still nasty ;)

Agreed.

I hit a dog once that was outside the fenced in "no-leash" area. The dog was sprinting through a path in the woods and met up with my fairly jagged pedal and I almost fell off. Owners didn't even apologize. Then there are the fvckers who hog the entire BIKE path so that they can talk to each other and go a whopping 3 mph. GET OFF THE PATH if you want to go on your nice little stroll, some people want to use the BIKE path for it's intended purpose.

1. It is not designated a bike only path. I ride with the mind set that I be prepared for anything (which is why I slowed down before I got to the couple walking their dog without a leash). I always evaluate every pedestrian I come up on to make sure a) they know I'm coming and b) they appear to know how to handle it. Most people are aware that cyclists ride on this path and they keep to the right, I don't slow down for these people generally unless there are others coming the other way.

2. All pets should be leashed. You and I are in agreement.

3. Yes, the safety of children is more important than my workout. You and I are in agreement.

4. Don't look at the pants if you don't like them. I'm not wearing them for your pleasure. :p I'm wearing them because they are designed to be comfortable and not cause me pain while I ride.

At least 2-3 times a week on my bike commute to work I yell at some dumb-ss walking/running in the bike lane. If they are traveling the same way as me with headphones on, I wait until I am almost right next to them, very close, and yell get on the sidewalk. Scares the crap out of them. :)
