is it possible to set up a case with 4 100 mm fans not in the case? i want about 6 fans inside the case, but also 4 fans outside the case that are still controlled by the power button. i dont want a second switch. is this possible?

im building a desk return, and i wanna make part of it out of kind of a lattice, but im concerned that it wouldnt provide enough cooling. so i wanna mount 4 120 mm fans to the lattice. i could potentially buy another power supply, but i would prefer it be turned on when i hit the power button to turn on the computer itself.

EDIT: the power supply wouldnt be bought, i'd just take one that my school is throwing out. they got lots of old computers they dont want anymore, some with working 160 watt power supplies. good enough for 4 fans.

Shouldn't be hard at all, then, just run some wire out the back of your case or some such thing (like any extra openings for serial ports and the like would be great) and split as many 4-pin molex connectors off of it as you need. You can be completely creative with aesthetics on this, too, with heatshrink or split loom or whatever.

Hey Wally....If you're not deaf now, sounds like you're going to be. What....ten fans? Are you like running your PC in an oven?

If you're looking for a big fan, you might just want to buy one of the smaller AC box fans from a hardware store and run that. You could then put it on the same power strip as your computer and use the power strip to turn the computer/fan on and off. It's a bit more rudimentary, but would serve the same purpose, as long as the box fan would fit where you wanted to put it.

Well, for that matter, you could easily check out an electronics surplous store locally, or possibly like DigiKey or BG Micro for a 5 or 6 inch 12 or 24 VDC fan.

This is cool, too.. as far as I know it works :) I've never had a need, myself: 24v fan mod

it wont be all that noticeable, it's gonna be under a desk, that's why im concerned about cooling.

i was thinking about that. a huge fan, but i dont want to plug it into a surge strip. i want to plug the computer into an ups unit. i guess i could plug the surge strip into the ups unit, but i'd prefer a more streamlined approach.
