Would it be MORALLY CORRECT to perhaps pirate a copy of Windows 2k, and take the $100 or however much it is and donate it to a much worthier cause?

Or taking it on an even less extreme level, if you were to have two computers in your house, and instead of buying software that you already have for OTHER system, such as an OS and whatnot (which by law is what you're SUPPOSE to do), and you'd take that money and give it to some AIDs research center or something?

In a word: No :p

That would be like Donald Trump saying: "Hey, is it OK if I go out and rape a woman, if I promise to donate a few million dollars to the Red Cross aftewards?" You can try to atone for wrongs, but that fact that a "wrong" is a "wrong" will not go away.

No, that would not be morally correct. If you have two comps networked you can use one copy of the software, otherwise you legally have to buy seperate copies. True that's kinda lame but that's the way it is. End of story, it really has nothing to do with morals, or donating. I'm not anti-donating either, I donate a good share to many charitable organizations but just because you feel that's better than paying the software developers for their hardwork doesn't make it right.

How about if your employer takes your paycheck and donates it to a charity of his liking?

No more than robbing a bank and giving the procedes to charity. It is still stealing. They make a product. You want it. They name a price. You steal it.
Its not right no matter how you cut it.

how can you compare rape to pirating software? jeebus, it's two copies in your house, who's gonna give a #@$? You're not selling it to anyone so you're not making a profit, don't get anal about it.
