Background:

Graduated Rutgers (GO RU!) with B.S. in C.S. and Econ
Been working as a Sales Engineer (100 person company)
Love the job, the money, the people

Starting MBA in Accounting in Sept

New:

Got a new job offer today, same pay but with tuition reimbursement, overtime, etc. (#2 place to work in NJ!)
Will work with the IT Audit group
Background of IT and soon-to-gain-knowledge in accounting will help in IT Auditing

I don't know if anyone is an IT auditor (or related) but I wanted to get anyone's input. I love my job but i don't think a Sales Engineer is a future career goal of mine (hard to be really good at knowing a product from company to company). If an IT AUditor can PM me with what's it like in that field, please do.. I know I won't get this new job opportunity again.. esp. considering my background..

New job wants me to start in 3 weeks, but i Know it will take maybe 4 weeks to replace me (i'm that good!)

Ughhh..

LIfe's tough decision.. and on my birthday too (today!)

Happy birthday. Clearly you are interested in accounting. Take the audit job and get the tie-in experience. Worst case, you will still have skills and talents that will get you hired elsewhere if you find you hate audit.

Audit = Employment forever. There's always a shortage of auditors, CPA's, etc, especially since SOX. And it doesn't look like regulations are moving in the downward direction anytime soon, so if a company is willing to take you on without that experience, go for it if you're actually interested.

Tough call.

SE = Sales = MONEY and being on top of your game. If you can get good sales experience then you are set for life.

IT Auditing = always a need and never respected but will gain broad experience (and often immediately combatted).

Thanks guys.. it is tough.. i know..I think I'll take the IT Audit job, I figure I won't possibly have this opportunity again. I'm good at SE.. but its for the one product I know (what my current company makes)

NeuroSynapsis - Nooooo, it was good, just wanted more answers :)

if you can go home every night knowing the people you are auditing hate you for your inexperience, go for it

Advancement possibilities are always a big plus. At least once you advance you'll be more involved over a wider job scope.

If you're happy where you are, unless you're dying to get into IT Auditing, I'd stay at your current place. You might not like the folks at the new employment over time.

Funny that I will work in IT/Finance Audit in 3 weeks. A little more pay but much better benefits.

Make sure that your company will pay for your CIA cert. I will get it ASAP and planning to go back for another BS in Acct or Finance.

<<<------ already had BS in MIS and MBA in Business/CS.
