To Sync or Not To Sync, That is the Question <g>!

Guys,

I thought this was a no brainer, until I read a review of the new Sanyo 16x CD-RW units. In that review it indicated that they checked the Sync data transfer box in the Settings section of the SCSI drive properties.

I have two SCSI drives, a Teac CD-532S 32x max CD-ROM, and an HP 9210i 8x4x32 CD-RW drive. Currently neither of those drives have theSync data transfer boxes checked. I clicked on the ? help item, and it indicated the boxes are normally checked for SCSI hard drives, and unchecked for SCSI CD-ROM drives, and should be left unchecked if the drive(s) are performing OK.

So, my question is, should these boxes be checked? And, what performance enhancement or detriment results from being checked or unchecked?

sync allows it to run at scsi-2 fast or ultra scsi speeds (10 MB/sec or 20 MB/sec) vs. asynch negotiation which runs at 5 MB/sec. the help box probably said it's usually unchecked for CDs because old CDs don't support it (they don't need to), anything you get nowadays would, definately the drives you have.
