To sell or not

I am in a dilemma. I currently have an EVA GTX 570 2.5 Gb card, but have the opportunity to sell it for $250 to a friend. If I did this, then I would either get a 680 preferably or might get a 670. If I don't sell then I will plan on picking up another card like my 570 now and SLI them. Problem is, I don't know if SLI is a good idea on my motherboard. I have the Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 LGA 1155 Z68 ATX Intel Motherboard currently, but I don't know if SLI would be good with it.
Bottom line, either I get another 570 and SLI with my mobo, or sell my 570 and buy a 680 in a month or two.

Buy a 2nd 570 and SLI them. If you don't like it, then return it and sell yours to your friend for $250.

You can easily get a new 570 for $250 so your friend is doing you a favor. You could even sidegrade to a 7850 and get more vram and better power consumption, or else maybe splurge on a 670.

It's not a normal 570, it has 2.5GB VRAM.

That said, 570 is out of date. I would sell it and use the proceeds to fund something like a gtx 670.

the 2.5gb models sold for way more than normal models when they first came out.

there is no way I would want to fool with getting another gtx570 2.5gb and having that massive power consumption. I would rather sale the gtx570 2.5gb and get a gtx670 or gtx680. it is not as big as an upgrade over 570 sli but its still about a 40-50% upgrade on average. a single gtx670/680 would use about 250-275 watts less and make less heat and noise too.

Their price at launch is irrelevant now; we just need to know the current value.

I missed the bit about the 2.5gb though so the card may in fact be a fair price at $250.

The thing is, a 7850 has 2gb of vram and you can get them for $230 new.

Realistically in terms of performance per dollar, selling the thing for $250 is a good deal for the OP IMO.

I was just saying that he likely paid a lot more and even the 1.25gb models sill go for a little over $200 so his friend is not really doing him much of a favor. yeah at $250 that is a pretty fair price.

If he doesn't buy mine, he would buy a 570 costing $270. I paid $400 for my card but that was in January. I didn't even think of the power consumption, I don't know if my 700w psu could handle the SLI.

it would depend on the rest of your system and the exact 700 watt psu that you have. think about it though, another new gtx570 2.5 will cost you almost 350 bucks now. it would make more sense to sell your gtx570 and get a non reference gtx670 since that would only costs you 175 bucks after selling your card. the user experience for single gtx670 would be much more consistent and enjoyable than all the noise, heat and power consumption of gtx570 sli.

I dunno OP, you had bad timing and bad luck with that GPU purchase IMO. They usually don't depreciate that fast.

That said, I think in your situation if you need more GPU power then sell the thing and go with a GTX 670 right now. Don't wait; they're priced fairly at $400 and they just came out. I don't foresee a price drop any time soon.
