To repair or not?

I left my digital camera in my car over the summer and it somehow managed to cause the lens to have artifacts on the lens. I sent it in to Canon for repair and was given an estimate of $119 + 10.83 shipping fee. My camera goes for less than $230 I believe now via this.

They have an upgrade program that would allow me to go from my SD800 to --> SD850 for $150 or the SD800 to --> Rebel XT for $299. I checked the prices online, new, for these refurbished upgrade cameras and it's not much of a deal in terms of pricing.

What would you do?

Checked SD850 and saw cheapest for $169.00 at Consumer Depot. SD800 google prices
Checked Rebel XT and saw cheapest as $$339 at etronics.com. rebel google prices

Would opting for the Rebel be a good choice? It comes with a 18-55mm lens.

your SD800IS has a wide angel lens, 1-1 upgrade you should do 800 > 870.

Rebel XT is very nice, I had it before, you will get nicer pictures than the 800, most noticable would be corner sharpness in the widest angle. But it's huge comparing to the SD800, has much faster focusing, but it doesn't zoom as close.
