To RAID or not to RAID on Abit IP35 pro????

I will be building a new box tomorrow with an Abit IP35 Pro, Q6600, 8800GT, and 2 WD 150gb raptors.

I have used the raptors in RAID before on my Asus board, but I hate the hassle of having to make a F6 floppy and find the right drivers, etc...

if I decided to go without RAID on the new Abit board, will I notice any significant performance loss?

I use my computer mainly for gaming.

Im just wondering if 2 raptors in RAID 0 are "THAT MUCH" faster than just running 1 for my applications and the other for backup stuff in a non-raid config.

thanks

you'll probably notice that the game won't load quite as fast but other than that you probably won't notice.
I gave up running RAID a few years ago because for me the extra hassle wasn't worth the extra performance for my needs (other people may differ).

I would recommend starting out with one drive in RAID ready and then converting to RAID if you need it. By the way if you are using a PATA optical device and Win XP, windows startup will be very slow unless you have the JMicron PATA controller set to RAID in the BIOS.
You should use the freeware program nLite to make a custom install CD with BOTH the Jmicron and Intel RAID drivers to avoid the F6 method, which did'nt work for me either.
