Why the hell do you people not pronounce the second 'a' in 'Rafael'? It's Spanish dammit!!! Geez, people who live in La Jolla don't pronounce it "la jolla", they pronounce it "la hoya".

You don't know the Bay Area very well.

"Vallejo"

"San Pablo Ave."

Oh I know the bay area. How people pronounce "Vallejo" is also troubling. It should be "va ye ho" not "va le ho". I mean, what's up with this mixed English-Spanish pronunciation?

Hmm I wonder, could it be native english speakers are the ones pronouncing these words wrong?

So what's wrong with that? I'm sure you probably pronounce Russian words incorrectly or Chinese words wrong as well. Expecting everyone in the world to correctly pronounce words from cultures that are not their own is stupid.

I hate it when people pronounce my last name wrong even though it would have been almost correct if they used english rules of pronounciation.

My last name ends in "ecerra." People say ekerra, wtf.

So then "la jo la" is an acceptable pronunciation for La Jolla?

Because this hear's the US of A, not the US of Mexico. We're allowed to pronounce words in whatever butchered fashion we choose.

Hawaii is another prime example.

What? You have a problem with Hah-vah-ee?

It allows those that are already pre-disposed to "Poser-ishness to differentiate between the "Uber-Poser" & "normal" Poser in the Social Jungle that is the Greater Marin Area.
