What kind of reception are you getting? Are you using Digital or regular cable? Who here has a cable modem and using a splitter to connect their wintv-d? man... i can't wait to get home and try it out again... geez... this is a pain.... thanks for the input.....

I've updated my drivers to the latest (WinME) found on their website. Can't get a signal through the cable input; however, I do if I hook my CATV line up the the regular antenna input.

I don't get any audio through the card, though. I've got their patch cable installed, just doesn't wanna work. Hopefully just needs more tinkering...

That's interesting because on Win2K, my WinTV works perfectly (signal spliced from my cable modem), but I get no sound either. I know it's hooked up right and I checked the volume control to make sure nothing was muted, but still no sound...

Is this the Haupaugge(??spelling) card? I was thinking of getting it, but if it dosen't work with win2k then i'll have to look elsewhere.

Yeap... it's from Hauppage (hop-pog), but it's most likely my own fault since Win/TV is supported under Win2K.

Do you have any other audio source (i.e. walkman) with a mini stereo jack to mini stereo jack cable? You could plug that into your line in jack on the sound card to test the sound card/PC setup?

Hey guys, I have mine installed on ME with no proplems except crashing sometimes. For the sound make sure that the audio connector is plugged into the card, the connector is round with many pins. The other end goes into the sound card line in, with the little headphone jack lookin thing. Go into volume settings and make sure that line in is not muted, and turned up. I had some problems with this at first. I got the thing running great, now i am looking for an ntsc descrambler for pay channels. Its not stealing i pay for them, but the way I have it setup the card is my tuner and I am not using the supplied cable box. I dont believe there is a functional one as of yet... I have tried everything, they say that some work in black and white but i havent got those to work either.

I've verified that my Line In on my Soundblaster Live is operating properly; still no luck on getting any audio through this damn thing. Checked (and re-checked) that the device is not muted, and that the audio settings on the software are set properly.

I think I may have gotten a bum card.

I only have the sound linked internally with CD-Audio type cable. The problem is that under device manager for the Win/TV audio driver, it says

<< No drivers are installed for this device >>

even though I've installed and re-installed it a few times. I tried using the un-install utility and then re-installing but nothing. It used to work perfectly, but since I upgraded to my new G450 vid card, my audio went away.

Also, about the cable descramber, I believe it's almost impossible to decode in the states. :frown: But I sure hope someone proves me wrong...

One more thought. There was a mini stereo coupler in the box. Bypass the sound card completly and go to straight from the audio out of the TV card to your speakers.

Link for descrambler info. Europeans have made a PAL descrambler but in the US we use NTSC. I hear ntsccd works but i get an error that it couldnt set screen size.... Anyone with luck please let me know...

As for the sound problem, I think its probably something simple...
When i hooked it up, I did it all wrong the first time. Make sure the cable in the card is the one that kinda looks like svideo. its round with alot of pins, and all the connectors come off of it. the other end looks like a regular headphone jack, open the wintv app, and make sure the volume is up an its not muted in the application. You could also plug one of the rca jacks into a stereo or vcr audio input to see if its working...

and you checked in the application win-tv to make sure you arent muted there. Use the remote, it works better, you could also check under device mgr and see if there is an irq conflict with sound (are you getting any sound?) I also had alot of problems till i moved the card to a different pci slot, damn if I were there i bet i could fix it...

Let's see...

Win-TV volume indicator shows at 100%, mono. Mute is not on.

No conflicts in Device Manager

I haven't tried a different PCI slot. They're all full - I'll have to rearrange a little bit. I'll give that a shot.

If not, what are ya doin' tomorrow evening? :D

emanon:

if you have the creative launcher on (or maybe turn it on for this),
goto volume -> click on play control -> goto line-in (verify that it
is not on mute and the sound is turned up...
do the same on the other side with 'what you hear'...

don't know if you've tried this, but this is what i had to do...

everyone:

i've got mine to work (got cable going into one, satelitte going
in the other, and vcr (satellite) going into the composite) on
winme - but i have to remove the damn thing and refresh the
device driver everytime i reboot the computer...it has a conflict
with the bus steering - i tried moving it to a different slut, but
that didn't help (actually make it worse and with bsod!)

any suggestions?

thanks,
mothresin

Okay...reseated the card in another slot, and ran into mucho problems rebooting/re-id'ing it and my NIC. Finally got everything working again...ran the Creative Launcher (don't normally have it running)...Everything you said was correct - Line In was muted, What U Hear was as well. Reset them, and...nothing.

Question: I'm running the WinTV32 app (i've alternated between that an WinTV2000). In the Configure/Audio Configuration Dialog setup, should I be set to Line-In? I've played around with various settings there, but to no avail.

I also have problems with the sound. I installed wintvd on both of my partitions( win2k & winme). I downloaded one of the drivers from the Haupaugue website and now the sound works for win2k. But it still doesn't work for winme even though I downloaded the driver for winme also.

Also, how clear of a reception are you guys getting? My reception is very grainy and not clear. I played around with the settings but still the same. Plus someone mentioned in the original hot deals thread that they were getting a black surrounding around the picture when they try to do full screen. I'm getting the same.

emanon:

i have no idea then *shrug*...sorry, it worked for me...
(? you followed the same instructions as the line-in side...
press the "what you hear" and go down to line-in?)

bigrash9:

as for the black bars...(i replied to this in the hot deals too)
you need to run the primary program (the color pie icon one), and
select 'allow overlay' - this has to be supported by your video card
(i have an old ati rage fury, and it works on that)...

You said it was muted to begin with, then you took the mute off... I bet the mute was the original problem, then you changed some settings in wintv causing another problem... If you cant remember how the original settings are, and there is no default, uninstall wintv, remove the entire directory after uninstalling and then reinstall... Or send the card back, but I would bet it is just a stupid setting.
I got it, it shouldnt be set to line in in audio config, it should be wintv volume, bet that fixes it!

Grainy yes, I agree but the hdtv is crystal clear. I have a tv out card, it looks much better on the tv but its still not as good as if it were going thru the cable box.

also... after tuning and scanning and shiat... all i get is 1 channel... nothing else! i am using cable with a splitter from my cable modem and shiat.... also when they installed my cable modem they put a thing between the cable line and cable but i took that out my self so i know that the channels are not being blocked... whats up?!

hows the digital? what kind of antenna are you people using? indoor or outdoor? how is the quality?

well... here ya go....

Here are links for the drivers and updated software to allow recording of HDTV and standard def digital TV to your Hard Drive using the WinTV-D card.

ftp://167.206.143.11/latest/untested/Vfw95-98.EXE
ftp://167.206.143.11/latest/untested/Wintv2K.EXE
ftp://167.206.143.11/latest/untested/DTV39data.EXE
ftp://167.206.143.11/latest/untested/DTV39data_relnotes.txt

The read me file has instructions for installation.

Use DTVcap to record.

You can play back these files from within TV2000 but they are still displayed at 480i.

Cinemaster 2000 will play the files back at full resolution. SD 640 X 480 works fine. HD 1920 X 1080 is somewhat scrambled on my setup (3 images side by side). DD 5.1 works if you can get Cinemaster set up correctly.

If anyone finds a software player that will display the 1920 X 1080 files appropriately please let us know. I've tried WinDVD, Elecard, and PowerDVD with no luck.

samanvahedi, so are you saying, it is possible to record HDTV from this card, but it will not play it back? We'll that really defeats the purpose of this card, because all I want to do is time shift HDTV content!

Let me know if you find out how to display these HDTV images.
