I don't know if Hyper99 is a troll, that's not for me to decide, but i can add some more evidence of his lack of research before making bold statements: http://forums1.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=28&threadid=183378 I am not sure if he understood my point at all...

To be fair, I believe his use of the english language is...somewhat limited. Maybe he's not fluent in it as those of us who have it as their native tounge or those who've studied it for a long time...perhaps that's where some conflicts arise?

Maybe english isn't his first language(sp?) but still. And it looks like me might hvae been trying to overclock M2 Cyrix chips... hehe, those are even worse overclockers than k6-2 500s. maybe he should try a newer cpu before he makes IGNORANT statements.

BurntKooshie, I can't tell (or don't care) if Hyper99 is a troll in general. However, as far as overclocking goes he meets the definition to perfection. Here is someone with limited to no experience (and self-admittedly unsuccesful) with overclocking that makes bold and sweeping negative statements about it. He also ridicules the members of this forum who are successful at it.

Lack of English is no excuse for rudeness. People who post should have some idea of what they are talking about.

Come on guys, you know it's a thrill, and bragging rights are part of the fun. You know, "I got a giga rig". On the flip side, overclocking is probably the best way to increase your knowledge of any system.

Yes, its a thrill, and yes, its bragging rights.

But for him to ignorantly presume that overclocking is useless and that are systems are unstable are just plain dumb. I think most of use are mad his stupid troll post, because the jist of his post isn't "overclocking is a thrill" its more like "overclockign is useless, no matter what, an overclocked system will crash".

He obviously doesn't know what he's talking about, so he should STFU imo.

DaddyG, what thrill? Getting something tangeable for cheap?

O/c'ing is not only the best way to learn about a system but to increase its performance. Bragging rights come with the territory - paying less than $200 for a CPU that performs identical to one at two to three times its price.

And Hyper99, if you really want to learn something about overclocking, check out Tom's latest T-bird/Duron o/c'ing article at http://www.tomshardware.com. It's becoming a mainstream practice.

OKOK you guy win...
I was exaggerating a little. :)
I manage to get my K6-550 up to 582 6 x 97 by increasing
2.3 to 2.4v
It working like a charm what can I say. :) :) :)
Took me awhile there to figure it out ;););););););););););):):):):):):):):):

We notice you changed your tune completely and edited most of your posts, Hyper99. Covered your tracks pretty well, I'd say. You might think of entering politics.

However, you missed one post - the 3:20 AM one. We'll look for the edit. Thanks for the "apology". Now keep researching. Don't fry your CPU.

LOLOLOLOL
I had to try it myself and it turn out I had a little more to learn.

>>researching. Don't fry your CPU
Hehehe, oh I think it still worth it for experience
Now I realize why I can't take my 550 above 582
There is no seperate IO voltage
there is only core 2.0-3.2 with I/O 3.3
no extra jumper to set IO to 3.4 or 3.5
therefore increasing my success of 600mhz
DFI motherboard not so good for overclocking
neither if FIC 503+ due to same reason
no seperate IO jumper, or there isnt any...
That how I was able to take my cyrix 133 to 165mhz
setting core to 2.9, and IO to 3.4
off to do some serious research, but so far so good
and thank you all for giving me the confident. ;););)

<<I mean no disrespect to amd, k6-2 users, or Conspiracy raven, but those were truly not the best o/c cpus.>>

Mike, none taken! I know just as much as everyone else that K6-2's are terrible overclockers (not to mention terrible CPUs for gaming among other things). I bought this CPU and mobo without gathering enough knowledge into it's performance and overclockability. I've learned my lesson, and now I watch the latest CPU news very carefully. I hopefully won't have to suffer with this bloody CPU for too much longer. But hey, my TNT2 keeps this rig running smoothly, so I think I can last for a few more months.

Anyway, I thought I'd add something useful to this thread. When I overclock something, I get a thrill out of it. I get this feeling of accomplishment, joy, and excitement out of it. (Like when I pushed my TNT2's mem clock 10 mhz more to 190. I'm still working on tweaking that card.) I've pushed my computer to it's limits, or at least, much farther. Tweak the cooling or whatnot some more and see if I can't push it farther. It's fun in it's own right. Usually when my OC is successful I get a really great feeling and have to change my pants...

...just kidding.

considering manufacters now include overclocking utils within the drivers for gfx cards, I think they know it
