To move or not to move...Lockheed gives me 10% raise and full relocation package *UPDATE*

updated Halloween

I brought the offer to work and got a 15% bump and my raise for this year is still in tact anywhere from 4.5% to 8%. I decided to stay at my current job and received a promotion to the next band. IMO my work reputation is hard to replace and rebuild at a new company so I will be staying...

For those that care...

*END UPDATE*

I currently work at a defense contractor and now ive been interviewing around. I got offered a job at Lockheed Martin Syracuse and they gave me a 10% bump, promotion to Senior Embedded Software Engineer and a full relocation package.

Typically here in the Baltimore area people are getting 20- 25% pay bumps just because cost of living is so high.

I have no idea how to weigh this one out. Should I bring it to my manager and explain that this is a promotion and I am really interested in this job?

Help!

Syracuse.

Yeh, it could be worth it. Upstate/Western NY is a soft market, so you'll be able to live cheaper.

How much do you like your current job, company, and pay? If you like it but think the new position offers more potential, take it to your boss and say you were made a job offer but like it where you are and wanted to see if there was anything that'd be willing to do to keep you around.

Of course this can backfire because then they might start looking for your replacement without you knowing since you expressed your desire to leave anyway...

That would be my dream job. Instantly, I would get season tickets to Syracuse Orange BBall and FBall. You are one lucky man.

Lockheed has a LOT of benefits that go beyond your pay - better than most companies.

However, in my first 3 months here I've done about 20 hours of actual work, and even that's a stretch....gotta love waiting for the security clearance.

whats the cost of living in Syracuse?

It is 15% less than Baltimore

So, you're net gain is 25%, plus you don't have to put up anything for relocating, which could run into the thousands of dollars.

SYRACUSE SUX!!!! BAD. nothing to do. snows constantly. The relocation package better include a new 4 wheel drive pick up truck if you want to get anywhere in the winter.
