I need some advice here. This is for my parents house, they just got hardwood floor done in downstair and it looks really nice now. Now they are aslo thinking about installing hardwood floor upstair also. Personally I don't like hardwood floor in my bedroom. What I'm most concerned with is if it will affect the resale value? I mean would most ppl dislike hardwood floor in the bedrooms when they shop for a home?

Cliff:
1. parents wants to install hardwood floor upstair
2. need to have an idea if ppl like or dislike houses with hardwood floor bedroom

Do your HW and worry about big boy things like home improvement when you move out of your parents' basement.

Hardood floors can add ~ 10% to the value of a home, so it's a good investment.. I'd think hardood floors would be preferred by most home buyers.

Then don't worry about resale or your bedroom. :)

If it's not for resale, purposes, they sahould do what they want.

As for resale purposes:
1) It matters what your neighborhood supports.
2) I view hardword floors i nteh bedroom as "higher end". It's just me though.

Resale is something they ask specificly and I have no idea and that's why I'm asking here

I like hardwoods everywhere except for Bathrooms and Kitchens...tiles in both of those locations. I HATE wall to wall rugs. Unfortunately my wife likes rugs in the bedroom...and so we have it only in the master bedroom...and it has become a mess. I'll most likely put hard wood floors down there shortly.

I think most ppl would hate HW in bathroom. As wall to wall rugs, do you mean carpet? My MIL has lots small rugs in her place and it's hideous. btw is real HW better or bamboo better?

Don't even bother replying to him. tfinch2 is short for trollfinch2.

Did you read the other thread on HW flooring yet?

As far as adding resale value, it depends on what's there or if you use good carpet instead of tile or wood.

For the most part it will add value to the house.

Kitchens and bathrooms should not have wood becuase there's a high potential for leakage which after a while can damadge the wood.
