Ok my system looks like this

PS3 3d hd dvr (dish 922) -----> hooked up to a reciever 616 onkyo ------ which is then hooked up to a Optoma HD33

I had all old hdmi cables. So i have slowely been switching over to high speed hdmi (for 3d playback). Well about a month ago I switched all the cables leading from the source to the reciever. Thats from the ps3 and hd dvr system to the reciever. Everything worked great I had a perfect picture from those.

Well now today I switched from the reciever to the projector. I watched normal tv just fine (hd dvr system 922) but when I went to play the ps3 I had static that would pop up every few seconds and then just disappear.

I replaced the new cable with the old non high speed hdmi and bam it worked fine again. (the 3d also worked fine again to)

so what is happening here. It makes no sense. the highspeed cable should be better at displaying 1080p and 3d content but it sucks only the non highspeed cable works. If someone could explain to me what is happening I would appreciate it.

I will say this. I thought the cable was defective but that cant be the case because I am able to get 3d and 1080p from the hd satelitte dvr 922

I wouldn' get too hung up on "high speed" cables. As you suggest, the old one worked...so leave it as is.

In terms of the static...maybe a bad pin connection? Bad cable in terms of shielding?

It was this cord http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882270045
It was fairly expensive.

I do however have it ran with my other cords.
Like its zip tied to
2 speaker cables
another hdmi cable from the computer
and the computer power cord
but the other one was zip tied the same way and it worked fine and that one isnt shielded at all either.

I hate all this stuff with 3d. I have read so much stuff that counterdicks eachother.
First I read you need hdmi 1.4 then It was 1.4a
Then I read theres no such thing as hdmi 1.4 or 1.4a theres only regular and high speed.
And only highspeed is capable of carrying the 3d signal.
But thats a lie also. because my 5 year old hdmi cable is working fine and that one def is not high speed.

So what is the truth behind hd. what do I actually need to make it work. Someone anyone please tell me before my head explodes.

Sorry for the horrible spelling. Ever since I was a kid Grammer has been my worst subject.

That's creative spelling. LOL Consider using a spell checker if you want to improve your writing.

Longer HDMI cables can be problematic. fralexandr has the solution for you. I use those redmere HDMI cables and they work very well and don't forget, they are directional.

the upsetting thing is I have tried to post about cables in the past and let me just say people get very upset if they considered the question stupid or something you could have looked up easily. I figured asking about which hdmi cable would be best would honestly get ridiculed by the community because its easily looked up I didnt even know about the RedMere cables

Something similar happened to me when I was helping a buddy to setup his home theater, and it ended up that I didn't tighten up one of the HDMI connection. I didn't push the HDMI connection all the way in.

I guess my recommendation is to first check all your cables.
